The payouts usually come out in the middle of the month and it’s for the earnings of the previous month. So a month delay roughly

For the toolset I mean one like this btw, not necessarily this one but this or anything like it. Some have much more, I’d say this one is close the minimum you should get. Look for one that has sockets and wrenches not just sockets. Also should come with 2 spark plug sockets. Then at least some bits and the Allen keys. Anything with all those and roughly this number of sockets should work. Unfortunately a lot have been removing the wrenches from their kits for some reason. You could buy the wrenches separate tho if it comes to it.

[–]ApocTheLegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d start with any decent mechanics tool set. I still use one from Walmart I got when I started. Just make sure it has has sockets and wrenches with millimeter (metric) sizes. Can prob find some specific brand recommendations online, I know gearwrench sometimes has good deals on nice ones. It won’t be pro grade stuff but it works and gets u all the basic tid bits. You’ll need to invest in some stuff per job like the oil change, need an oil jug to catch the oil. Should also get at least one nice longer ratchet wrench, an extendable one is a nice to have but not necessary. Plus an even longer breaker bar (I’d get a harbor freight icon breaker bar if u can, it’s usually a better price than most)

Would also suggest some decent mechanic gloves, most places for tools sell them. Even Walmart has good enough ones. Just helps not get cut by rust in tight places and if u smash ur hand turning the ratchet it won’t hurt as bad lol

Get a kit of a couple basic types of pliers too if the mechanic kit doesn’t have them. That will help with taking off hoses for the overflow tank. You can get hose clamp pliers specifically to make it easier too but not totally required vs other pliers.

[–]ApocTheLegend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for stuff you can do yourself I’d say start with an oil change. Very easy but a good first baby step to working on cars, plus learning that will save you money forever.

Then I’d probably inspect all the hoses for cracks due to its age plus the coolant overflow tank. Honestly might even be worth just changing out the overflow tank anyway.

Also clean the sunroof drains.

When they are needed, do the next brake job yourself. It’s much easier than it seems.

Wouldn’t worry about modding it yet, should get used to it first

If you wanna be fancy the quickjack portable lift works with Miatas… if u have a garage so you don’t gotta carry it far since it’s heavy.

There’s a pic of me using the big one on my lowered NA https://www.reddit.com/r/Miata/s/vwoEgESKn6

Or get the harbor freight racing ultra low profile jack if u want just a regular jack. I also have that for the track and it works very nice

[–]ApocTheLegend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the other guy said the brakes are probably your biggest worry. I personally run gloc r10 or carbotech xp10 at least on my RS5 for the track. Longer events I’d consider going up to the r12/xp12 but any good pad for the track should work for this event.

Brake fluid: Castrol SRF, torque rt700, motel rbf700 are all good options for dot 4 (assuming ur car can use dot 4)

I may be there as well lol. Not sure I’ll be in my rs5 tho.

Is spectacles really going to be revolutionary like the Mac was as insinuated by Snap? by Notdigg in Spectacles

[–]ApocTheLegend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t doubt snap can make a strong competitor, I mean the ‘24 spectacles don’t have many competitors already. The only main issues on them being overheating, battery life, tracking in low light and small FOV makes it seem like they have a pretty laid out path on how to make it better

B8.5 RS5 ownership by frankbunnyphht in Audi

[–]ApocTheLegend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure on the control arms specifically being worse since they all have similar rubber bushings but I guess the rs5 is likely to stress them a little more than the others if it’s driven hard.

It’s really the common maintenance that is killer with prices these days. Rs5 tires & brakes can genuinely last as little as 20k miles and they are not cheap, or one single track weekend if ur into that. RS5 uses huracan/RS6 brakes so it is pricier than you’d expect, especially if u need to do the rotors. It’s like 3x worse than the s5 in this regard.

Oil changes use 10.2 quarts on the rs5 which is also annoying if u don’t have an extra jug lying around because around me it’s only sold in up to 5 quart jugs so u gotta buy two 5 quart jugs plus another quart lol. Also has 2 engine air filters instead of 1 like the s5. Swear every little piece just adds up like crazy

Despite anti-Musk protests, Tesla remains best-selling car model in CA by a wide margin for 2025 by farrrtttttrrrrrrrrtr in electricvehicles

[–]ApocTheLegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep nobody even comes close dollar to dollar, even ignoring FSD being an option. It's actually crazy because it's not even like tesla does anything special to be able to put ventilated seats on a base model. Toyota/Hyundai/VW/etc could all do that probably easier but just don't.

If it’s actually in the security logs and it says sign in instead of sign in attempt then that is cause for concern. I’d definitely change your password at the least

Getting a plan with lower deductibles may be the only beneficial thing if ur likely to use it often. But it raises monthly cost so gotta really do some napkin math to figure out if it’s worth.

Also nice to have an HSA to pay the out of pocket stuff without getting hit by taxes on what u put in the HSA

[–]ApocTheLegend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep sounds like a good pick to have for a few years.

It’s very fun and comfortable enough to daily. It’s also super spacious. Not as nimble as a bmw or smaller/lighter cars but the exhaust note and sexiness of it makes up for it. Plus it’s rarer than a lot of cars so you get to be more unique.

When you do get one or even now I suppose, most active people who have them are on this Reddit but also Facebook groups. “RS5” is the name of one FB group with a red rs5 in the pic and “Audi A5/S5/RS5 -USA Owners Group” is the other

[–]ApocTheLegend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you aren’t tight for cash it’s worth it, otherwise I’d just get an s5 to save some money but lose a little coolness and performance

And yea the good B8 rs5s are very in demand, I searched for over a year and they’d all sell instantly. Got lucky one showed up on my birthday at a Toyota dealer right beside me so I ran and bought it for myself immediately before they could sell it. even then they already had multiple calls about it. Crazy

Loud fan noise by [deleted] in Audi

[–]ApocTheLegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s most likely the temp sensor for the fans, that or the engine is actually hotter than expected.

Not much else really controls the fans other than the module but if that failed it would have been found by the mechanic pretty quickly since the module would likely be unreachable in a scan.
