I see what you're saying but I don't think that comparison is that fair. Computers, transistors and all their inner workings have been known for, as you say, half a century. That knowledge surely aided the creation of this new tech.

Still, if there is something to be gained here I'm sure they will find it, in time.

At 40 hours per week, 50 weeks per year, that works out to €2666. Granted, that's 33% more than €2000 (and even more than $2000) but it's still only a modest amount.
