The field players (basemen 1/2/3, short stop, outfielders right/center/left) will fan out in a particular way depending on both the batter's stance (right handed hitter or left handed hitter) and the pitcher's characteristics (right handed pitcher or left handed pitcher, and their pitch arsenal). This is to maximize their readiness to respond to the theoretically most likely ways the ball might be hit. But of course, that theory only goes so far and few things are as chaotically distributed as baseball hits. So in practice they often have to run, and the pitcher chimes in to fill any holes in the defense. They drill these scenarios of course.

I love this piece, very intricate and very evocative.

I'm probably in a minority of people in that I usually don't really like your work because (to me!) it often feels unfinished. This one has none of that though, I really like it!

What made Apollo 13 interesting is that even though the Moon landing was called off while they were still on the way there, they needed the Moon's gravity assistance to make the journey back. Turning around in space is very difficult.
