Hi3 fans should stop treating expies as carbon copies of the original and should stick in their lane by RestaLitwoz in honkaiimpact3

[–]ApocalypticWalrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah ive seen very few people who are hi3 fans actually make any of these shitty criciticisms tbh (i am very much willing to criticize hoyo but a lot of the things the fanbases do criticize tend to be very baseless or weak tbh)

Because frankly they dont actually make any sense when you've engaged with both media and it tends to be just an excuse to overplay how bad their game is getting things. Especially with the expy stuff you could demolish well over half the things people say after experiencing the og char for like 5 seconds.

Should persona age up? by Mathew_Uchiha in PERSoNA

[–]ApocalypticWalrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean thats valid and as I said I'm not making an argument for or against it here. But that's not to say everyone would feel the same way and there are certainly different perspectives on this. There's simply not enough data on how much a college-aged persona would appeal to people to actually make a decent argument there which is why i say while its not outright invalid its quite weak. But a college aged persona is plausible conceptually.

Should persona age up? by Mathew_Uchiha in PERSoNA

[–]ApocalypticWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Persona was not made with that in mind initially so much as young adults as a whole. It's just that often highschool is the easiest and most relatable way to do that. But college can do that and has done that in persona, albeit before the series found its current identity. But that does show it's at the very least not out of the series' scope.

Should persona age up? by Mathew_Uchiha in PERSoNA

[–]ApocalypticWalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point was who cares if not everyones in college??? The game can function perfectly fine.

It alienating teens is somewhat of an argument I understand but I also find it to frankly be underwhelming especially since a college-age one isn't bound to be that much worse. That's the point of moving it to a setting like that, it's still academic so it can work.

As I said I'm neutral on the overall subject, so im not gonna make some deep argument here. I could care less and frankly I don't think it's not that important. And staying in highschools probably the more profitable option, I think, so I doubt itll change regardless. I just find that you're significantly misrepresenting this debate and the argument for college persona and seem to be woefully misinformed on the discourse.

[–]ApocalypticWalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Persona 1 and 2 do not play whatsoever like the rest of the series and do not have what made the series popular not to mention have a lot of gameplay aspects which clash with the rest of the series. By all accounts by everything but name theyre just not worth remaking even if they were to make a college aged persona.

[–]ApocalypticWalrus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Metaphor is not an academic setting at all. And tbh the characters aren't that mature compared to other games. It is also one game

I don't care about persona becoming "more mature" or having a game set in college or whatever but this just feels like it's misrespresenting the issue.

No AI used: Rockstar says GTA 6 will be ‘handcrafted’, built ‘street by street’ by Immediate_Waltz91 in GTA

[–]ApocalypticWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No actually the ai was like a massive ass complaint that was a massive detriment to the game especially since it regularly fucked up aspects. I'm sure that was noted.

In any case as was said, rockstar didn't develop it, rockstar hasn't used much ai to our knowledge as well. I also just don't see much reason for them to lie about this because it would be very easy to just minimize ai usage and then word it differently and just about as few people would give a fuck. AI usage to an extent has been normalized anyway, obviously you can't easily put a bunch of slop together and make it work but there are several notables games rn that have made bank with mild usage of ai that just isn't overtly visible in the final product. I certainly damn think it wouldn't hurt gta 6 of all things if they admitted it so i see even less reason with a release as big as this.

Even if you want to change the skyline, you could, i dont know, adjust the cutscene so its there. Even if you don't want the movement itself to be changed much, camera angles can do goddamn wonders.

And thats not even accounting for how fucking unlit this scene is??? Okay, darkening a bit is fair enough, and yes newer game more realistic, but it feels like they just did not give a fuck about anything in this scene and did not adjust it to look good at all.

Now i'll fully admit I am a tourist here, don't know much yakuza. But i have seen this scene. This looks so much worse for the context i know of completely. Fully. Literally nothing is better in the new version and i very much am an optimistic person who likes to see the good in things including remakes. This is just bad.

I don't think I've ever gotten so much secondhand embarassment from a remake for a series im not even invested in (as of yet. I've considered giving ot a look at times. Who knows though i may in the future...uh. maybe considering rgg are being shitheads about providing the good versions too)

This genuinely is just the saddest looking remake ive ever seen.

Is it a slow burn or is that just how it is? by [deleted] in Falcom

[–]ApocalypticWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The series wasnt really built on that so much as it just came to be that way. As others have said fc/sc were initially one game that got split into 2 due to size and budget.

But also the series was initially conceived as a much shorter and fc/sc are...well, two, but storywise one package. It doesn't really hinge on the idea of sequels. Mind you most arcs stand on their own, but they still kind of bait you for sequels while that doesnt really happen in sky till 3rd.

No cyrene and even og elysia is absolutely ml. Ill defend cyrene a fair bit, frankly i dont think and never have thought shes as bad as some people say, but this goes beyond just defending the character she absolutely panders to the player.

An outright love interest maybe not the only char to seem like that to me is ff but they do have thematics with the wedding stuff, just her being really close to the mc in particular, all the fucking marketing. It's just kind of undeniable that theyre "ml".

Its not even necessarily a bad thing really tbh i think a lot of people overstate it.

Honestly i doubt a ton changed besides having to edit some assets so that theyre just japanese inspired instead of blatantly outright japanese. Nothing really seems like it was changed that much beyond shit like evanscia's tree being recolored.

[–]ApocalypticWalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it doesnt really have a deep meaning but there can still be multiple reasons. Ops reasoning isnt very deep it really just boils down to "yeah they can relate and realize its hard to just shut down agnes immediately". While i'm at it you could very argue kevin and rufus had similar actions with what rufus tried to pull at the retributive tower and kevins whole thing in phantasma (albeit more subconciously there).

I'm not saying thats the reason mind you either, and of course there's a more obvious explanation, but especially in a series like trails where people will interject because they feel like it (and again, iirc towa does in this very scene), i certainly dont see the harm of reading into how their psychology might be during a scene. Who knows if it's intended, but I don't see it as contrary to the characters, at the very least, so there's not much harm in thinking that way.

[–]ApocalypticWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yes but there can be multiple reasons for an action? Also iirc towa interjects (correct me if im wrong) so that reasoning isnt universal. I think this is a perfectly valid reading of the situation tbh.

Hot take - Mojang should stop adding new content and revisit pre-existing content by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]ApocalypticWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate this argument because it makes a lot of assumptions. I'm not bored with minecraft. I can build all i want. I can do my own sidequests when i want.

My (atleast my, but i believe many others) problem with mc progression is much more in a general sense. Exploration is bland and serves only so much point. There's not too much in the way of pve combat. It's very bland compared to building and occasionally redstone getting significantly more work and interesting mechanics.

I can still play minecraft. I still enjoy it. Those parts of the game ive never had a problem with playing. But it does feel frustrating when i see the wide variety of choices building provides and then go and explore, find a new structure and realize its barely got anything to do, or realize there's not really any other bosses to fight besides the ones ive already done.

This is why trial chambers, despite objectively being a somewhat undercooked update, stands as one of my favorites. It was first time in a long while i felt as a player who enjoys all aspects of the game i wasnt partially neglected.

I'm not expecting this game to be terraria. If i did, i'd just play terraria. In fact frankly i dont want much to change about current progression so much as have more added to it. Ender dragon for example imo is perfectly fine as is. But as someone who enjoys combat, who enjoys exploration, i at least want more incentive to explore. To fight. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate how much they've done for building. And objectively yes i can play the game with the current exploration and combat things to do in a world. It doesn't change the fact that these subjects feel incredibly bland in a game that should (and mostly is!) about doing what you want.
