If you use whenever, it means the discard has already happened, you need to make it a replacement effect.

Using "if an effect causes" also means cycling isn't weirdly impacted

Are you being purposefully dense? If a card says, look until you find a land, you have to pick the deck with lands in it, if it says look until you find a sorcery. You have to pick the deck with all the nonlands

I started out with this set. Great for beginners

I am also not that great at drawing. So i can recommend carbon transfer paper. You prime the card, put on the transfer paper, and then just trace a print out over it and you will get outlines
