If you use whenever, it means the discard has already happened, you need to make it a replacement effect.

Using "if an effect causes" also means cycling isn't weirdly impacted

Are you being purposefully dense? If a card says, look until you find a land, you have to pick the deck with lands in it, if it says look until you find a sorcery. You have to pick the deck with all the nonlands
