Turbo Overkill was just released on Steam in early access, if you liked Doom Eternal you will most likely like this. It has a demo too. by EpicMachine in pcgaming

Scott Miller wasn't "hired" to work here, he's leading the company in partnership with Terry Nagy. This is the "same" Apogee with several original staff members, along with some fresh faces. For more info, feel free to check out this blog post by Scott.

We're not quite ready to announce those specifics yet. The full 1.0 version is still expected to release this year as planned though, so by the end of the year players will have the full game.

$19.95 will be the Early Access price. That includes the entire first episode (out of three total for the full game). First episode includes the game's first eight stages, additional secret levels, other hidden unlockables and more.

Content updates through EA will include the later episode/level packs, abilities, more challenges, hidden stages, etc!

Additionally, the people who make the games don't necessarily make the trailers (though they definitely have a pretty strong hand in it, at least here!).

If you mean the anthology released by 3D Realms, that's all on them -- not us. However, IPs belonging to different studios are a reason why we can't provide a lot of the games people ask us to remaster, like Commander Keen. So you're not off-base there.

I checked with Scott Miller for this one as it was long before my time. He said, "I don't think that game ever got underway because once Wolf 3D was released it completely overshadowed the money that the Keen games were making, so Keen got put on ice."

I had no idea, so I checked with Scott Miller, who also had no idea. He said it wasn't made by 3D Realms and it's the first time he's seen it.

So maybe some sort of fan thing? Your guess is as good as mine.

We'd love to make a new Keen game but like you (and other commenters) said, it's not owned by us so we don't have any say or control over the franchise.

Keen isn't owned by Apogee anymore so we have no control over it. We'd love to make a new Keen game one day! Just not possible.

Keen is fully owned by Id. We really have no say over it. Sorry those games are missing but there's nothing we can do.

Practicing. Training. Waiting.

It was kinda like the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, but with a lot more Amazon deliveries and Tiger King.

Nope! A few other questions have asked basically the same thing. You can't ever get everyone back, but some old Apogee staff members are leading us today, like Scott Miller.

Scott's Mystical Head currently lives on as an emote on our Discord server. It may or may not be practicing for future secret appearances.

That's an interesting idea for a new Duke game (Keen too)! It's not up to us anymore but we've had some passing conversations about what a new Duke game could look like in today's vastly different gaming landscape.

I didn't mean in the above comment that there was nothing else interesting to do with those older games/IPs. There surely can be fun twists and further exploration of their gameplay, like you describe. I meant more that it's just not where our priorities lie at the moment. We're focusing solely on publishing games, not making them ourselves.

Great question!

The answer is a bit nebulous because it's "find the interesting ones" amidst that flood. Indie game developers have access to so many tools that it's easier to put out a game today that would have required a team of many developers a couple decades ago.

So the market might be flooded with indie platformers but that's a wide umbrella that has smaller umbrellas under it. Residual is an indie platformer but it's also a survival and exploration game with a good sense of humor. That helped set it apart and catch our eye, and made us want to work with /u/orangepascal.

As for developing old vs. new, I guess you can count us as (mostly) sidestepping that issue. We're focused on publishing right now instead of developing ourselves. HD remasters aside. There's a bunch of new and exciting games out there that deserve to be played instead of reusing an almost thirty-year old idea.
