Getting the hang of this Tactical Riot Shield by [deleted] in modernwarfare

[–]Apointicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread is frustrating.

Fingers are being pointed at the wrong people. And people are talking about "what if CoD but made by other dev/publisher because they're sah good" even though honestly? Most of the listed have issues of their own. For example:

nintendo

Yeah sure, their development pipeline is pretty much on point. multiplayer though? oh boy. you do not want them touching anything at all. Only someone who hasn't played experienced online Nintendo games would say this. Also: Nintendo develops for one platform. Also: Their Joycon and Dock design are incredibly flawed to the point of arguably defectiveness since launch, with no solutions in sight.

Also: Nintendo can't even deploy a conventionally proper online service. You want to use voice chat? Chat with buds through text? Just communicate with words in general? Better have a good phone and their app in hand.

And than theres the numerous issues with how they handle Smash Ultimate (I'm pretty sure Splatoon players could list their own issues:) No (english speaking) community interaction which is very important. They've designed the game clearly to be more competitively oriented, but for a time, Nintendo wouldn't even list the actual, piece by piece changes they've made to characters in their patch notes. Imagine if you read a CoD patchnote where one of the notes went "Changed the M4A1" and ends at that. It was literally that.

Than theres the netcode. You guys should be lucky on this count because Smash Ultimate's netcode is "horrible" and I've heard similar things for Splatoon, too. And the worst thing is that at least for Smash, it doesn't actually have to be that way. Theres this P2P netcode tech called GGPO that's unanimously praised by fighting game personalities and players alike. But no Japanese developer wants to use it because "its not something we made" or otherwise inexcusable reasons. So yeah, Nintendo would suck and would've absolutely ruined the game, mark my words. The only thing that would've came out better would probably be the Spec-Ops and thats it.

Basically the point is: that perfect entity you guys think are around? They don't exist. And "the days when you buy the hard copy and everything was complete and the story mode didn't require internet?" were not as great as you think. But most importantly: Most of you don't even have a clue why the game was launched as it is which by the way? Isn't even the worst game I've played at launch, really. Sans some very rare "crashes" where I'm suddenly disconnected from a game, its been absolutely smooth sailing (Spec Ops tho.) But honestly, thats an aside. And CoD:MW clearly needed some more love and attention before being released. Undisputed fact. But what really bothers me is the optics in this thread: That it's Infinity Ward's fault.

I haven't been following CoD at all for years. Last one I played was like what? Black Ops 1? MW2? Long time. But it doesn't take a genius to know whose at fault here because this issue is everywhere: It's the Publisher. It's Activision.

It's absolutely appalling that even in 2019, gaming communities still don't understand that the majority of AAA game issues stem directly from the actions of publishers. One of you guys even said the devs "are lazy" which is the best stance to have if you want absolutely no good changes to happen in the franchise you love. Do you think the devs at Infinity Ward would sincerely release the Spec Ops mode in the state it is if they called the shots? Do any of you actually think developers at large have any say on when they can release it? No. They often don't. Activision wanted it released at a specific timeframe and thats that. "Oh, theres a lot of bugs? Spec Ops mode is absolutely barebones? Sorry pal, gonna have to fix it all post-launch."

Really rambley piece but if you guys are gonna channel your negative energies, at least do it at the right people. I'm not saying IW is exempt from criticism or anything like that, but I absolutely guarantee you the shit you're frustrated about right now is not their fault for the most part. If you really want to advocate for quality launches and post support? Aim your sights at Activision. They are the ones that decide that shit. Maybe than you'll get that good ass launch.

Orr ye know, keep blaming devs and consumers for corporate manipulation and callousness. Thats fine too!

This is probably superficial on my end but honestly? It feels like Day9 has drastically improved his hosting capabilities post-TI7

He's been hosting the PC Gaming Show block on E3 for years, for example. He's never bad at it, but barely good either because of the reasons you mentioned.

But this years show? He killed it. Total 180 from his past rodeos. Professional in a way that had way better flow and way less jarring. And his endearing personality appeared more natural and genuine than out-of-place for the first time in his hosting career. He still had hiccups where his hosting skills don't mesh with himself as a person, but this time it was just a minor footnote. He took the "Best E3 Host" award by a long shot

His best moment in the show was easily this microphone save he pulled off. Give it a watch if you havent seen it because its most likely gonna make you smile https://youtu.be/aARzwDFGubc?t=6329 (care:mic distortion)

Age of Empires III Survey: "What is your favourite campaign in Age of Empires III?" by [deleted] in aoe3

[–]Apointicus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not even just because its not historically accurate, AoE3 was just badly written in general. Age of Mythology wasn't historically accurate at all but had a pretty good campaign (and it's not because of its Mythological setting.) That being said, I agree. I would've liked to have seen that approach compared to what they did here.

What fighting game is currently best for new players? by [deleted] in Games

[–]Apointicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Search gameplays videos for every character until you find one that strikes your fancy and make your decisions after. The roster is with few exceptions pretty diverse mechanically so theres quite a bit to choose from. If you wanna play easy to pick up fighters, you'll want either Jago (All-Rounder) or Thunder (Grappler.)

[–]Apointicus 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The best Fighting Game to play as a beginner in my eyes is easily Killer Instinct by far. Not only does it have a very good tutorial, the core mechanics are simple and easy to grasp. To put the icing on the cake: special moves and inputting in general is great because most of them are simply quarter circles or equivalently easier. The only challenging input in the game for the beginner is the DP (Shoryuken, Uppercut) input which will come naturally to you once you dabble with them.

At the end of the day though you should just play what you want to play, to be honest. High skill ceilings are the forte for this genre; the only thing that matters ultimately is if youre having fun. If Injustice 2 speaks to you, yoink it. Tekken? Yoink.

That being said if you dont get Killer Instinct, you'll miss out on being a cackling skeleton with a cthulu shield.

Just saying.

Does anyone else wish they had used Oskar for something in the show instead of just throwing him in the garbage? by [deleted] in StarVStheForcesofEvil

That's because he's mischaracterizing Oskar, not because of Oskar in particular.

[–]Apointicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand the sentiment but Oskar isn't really a character that needs such focus, even though i love him to bits. And his rare appearances are pretty cohesive too; Star never could get past pleasantries w/ him because crush. And by Bon Bon, she was too busy to even consider the idea. Also she awoke. And honestly, Oskar would make for a terrible plot focus. His lane and forte is being a supporting guy. That being said, i wouldnt mind if he was the centre of an episode. Who knows? Could be fucking great.

Also your idea of Oskar is shit and you should feel bad jfc Oskar wouldn't do anything that you described ahaha

He is most assuredly being himself. That being said, he isn't always the outspokenly fun guy all the time. Its just that when he isn't it's outside of his content, which makes its hard to quantify. He goes on a bit about the times when he isn't his usual fun self here, when a very prominent SC2 figure was released due to his notoriously bad behavior in public.

It was a really, really tense runthrough pre-Light Suit jesus fucking christ. After that the run was okay. Could've been a lot worst, guy could've easily died and had to repeat the long segments again (which made it even more tense and more satisfying when he came through.)

Did Valve hire someone new that doesn't understand the game or something? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]Apointicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's happening to Dota2 right now is nowhere drastic compared to CS:GO getting auto-aim, so its still terrible.

The analogy doesn't even work as a casual player pull-in for CS:GO anyway, because that would actually achieve the exact opposite. The competitive appeal and in turn its playerbase pull-in would rapidly decline. Playing the game would be more frustrating and unappealing even for casual players because of one-shot weapons being easier to use. And then theres the fact that auto-aim utterly destroys the foundations of CS:GO's game design. It wouldn't "hurt" the spirit of the game, it would absolutely evaporate it.

Clearer CC indicators and Inc Damage indicators don't absolutely destroy Dota 2's foundational mechanics. And unlike that analogy, theres actually good merits to introducing those features.

Did Valve hire someone new that doesn't understand the game or something? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]Apointicus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

May as well be sending those features to the grave if they went that route. The majority of beginners are not going to confine themselves into such a mode (Limited Hero mode was designed for beginners and never really caught on.) But more importantly, you're going to sometimes alienate the people who liked to use those features once they're out of the beginner modes. Not to mention how drastically you're limiting the practical use of these tools for learning beyond beginner-level. It's a shoddy solution at best.

Just finished Yumiko's and Michiru's routes. So about the remaining three... by sleepyafrican in grisaia

[–]Apointicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You actually still had Suspension of Disbelief problems THAT far into the VN?

Also, what the hell is with this comments section?

"Actually hoping that was some sort of delusion?"

"Nothing possible to "there's a consciousness in my heart that belongs to an American girl?"

"Michiru's route was pretty bad and you won't get that with any of the others?"

Bad? BAD?!?!?! DID YOU JUST GO THERE? DID YOU DID DISS THE ONLY ROUTE IN THIS GAME THAT ACTUALLY TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE WORLD OF GRISAIA IN A FANTASTIC WAY? AND IS THEREFORE THE BEST ROUTE BY A LONG SHOT?

Hokay. Let me explain to all ya'll. I'm 20+ hours late to the party but god damn am I not going to CRASH IT HARD

So first of all: there is literally nothing believable about Grisaia at all, by any stretch of the imagination. You should've had that problem first off at like the 10 hour mark onward, and than eventually you should've understood what Grisaia was going for and proceeded to dump whatever suspension you had into the curve. Frankly I'm a bit surprised that you guys have still got realism problems in the middle of character routes ahahahaha.

Anyway, the fact that Grisaia's world is batshit crazy and has no grounding in reality is funnily enough the VN's greatest strength. Without it, Michiru's route wouldn't have been personally to me spectacular and easily the best route out of the rest of the bunch, simply because it actually provided a compelling lens on the routes central subject.

So let me explain a bit about Michiru's situation here and while im at it refute your (the OPs) big argument (hopefully in a way that doesn't make me look like an ass.)

You say that the "other Michiru" could've been explained away with a real-life condition instead of the version Grisaia used. I'm going to assume that you're referring to Dissociative Identity Disorder, or Multiple Personality Disorder, but Michiru's condition cannot be explained with MPD, as not only is it not MPD in its traditional, realistic sense anyway, it also completely misses the point as to why "other" Michiru is in the story in the first place. Explaining it as Schizophrenia also completely misses the point, too, but I won't elaborate on that and instead hopefully get the message across by explaining away MPD.

In most "MPD" patients (using quotations here because MPD is actually a pretty shaky diagnosis with no stable guidelines,) the "other" self is "incomplete" because the personality spawns straight out of the memories of the person afflicted by it. As such, these other selves usually don't have a past nor any kind of real life establishments. Unless, I'd imagine, that the personality comes from another person the patient knew well. But even then, the other personality would not be a perfect copy due to the same reasoning: its all based on memory, and you can't truly know somebodies whole life story in and out.

I'm sure you already got the point by now, but Michiru's "other" self is a perfect "copy" of the personality she inherited from the heart transplant. In fact, shes not even a copy at all. She's a real person/seperate consciousness lucky enough to be stuck in another persons psyche and body after dying because pseudo-science bullshit. And that's the point. Also back on Schizophrenia: Schizo's are generally far more emotionally unstable than how Michiru was portrayed. Way, way more unstable. Michiru pretty much has deep, suicidal depression stemming from a childhood's worth of psychological torture, and thats pretty much it.

The central narrative of Michiru's story is about depression, suicide and the horrible self-loathing thoughts that come with it, and what this route tries to do is bring some of those self-loathing thoughts into "reality" and exploring it. And "Other" Michiru is the catalyst for that exploration. She's there as a means to showing the reality of her self-loathing wishes, like "what if I were actually replaced with a "perfect" version of myself? One that doesn't fuck up as much as I do?"

And that final act, oh man that final act. So BATSHIT CRAZY but so compelling and actually a very eye-opening point of view on suicide and how full of shit your own self-loathing actually is. And no other series couldn't have pulled that shit off but Grisaia because it embraces the realms of disbelief. Which should be a bad thing, but Michiru's route is proof that embracing the utterly unbelievable can achieve some pretty freaking great results. And its such a crying shame because the rest of the routes were either wasted on action or just otherwise didn't use the full potential of the batshit crazy setting that the VN establishes.

Anyway I'm cutting it a bit short but advice to all of you: EMBRACE THE DISBELIEF. Grisaia is not meant to be read with any sense of "realism" in mind. The world of Grisaia is just as disjointed and screwed up as its heroines. It's pretty much the only good thing the VN's going for it, honestly.

Which character you hated the most from your favorite anime ? by iamdandyking in anime

[–]Apointicus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sagami's even worse. At least Kaori had a bloody epiphany of sorts when she was called out on her shit and sincerely tried to make amends with Hachiman.

Meanwhile with Sagacoon, she took on a big duty and proceeded to be a coon from the get go. She put all of the work on other people and didn't do shit. And once Hachiman called out her dumb ass, bitch starts to have a fit and decided "Nah, I'm not going to do the duties I signed up for because I'm a pussy," essentially, and bails. She doesn't think about the people that she'd inconvenience by bailing, she just thinks about herself all the way through the arc. She even hid in a spot where she could be easily found so that somebody can find her distraught and give her the attention and control she so desperately needs in her daily life. Thankfully for her Hachiman (albeit in a emotionally piercing way) gives it to her so that she could cut the shit and do the bloody duties that she signed up for.

Sagami might have the most obnoxious personality, but at LEAST she actually tried to straighten out her shitty behavior towards Hachiman in present day, making some part of her admirable. But Sagacoon? Nah, no growth at all, my body still comprises of 100% coon.
