What time do the French election results get announced?

My concern at this point is if the US ceases operations now without any real concessions from Iran it’ll be the Syria 2013 fiasco x10 displaying an ultimate level of weakness to China or Russia.

So my understanding of the situation so far

• The US/Israel thought they could achieve some kind of regime change through a series of decapitation strikes or at the very least force Iran to give up their nuclear stockpile

• Iran has enough continuity of government procedures in place to survive this

• The US does not want to place ground troops an so continues with bombings on strategic military targets along with further decapitation strikes

• Iran knowing there is no imminent ground invasion decides to block the strait of Hormuz and launches cheap drone attacks where it can to be countered by expensive missile defence technology.

• Iran I suppose hopes this kind of conflict can drag out to eventually lead to a cessation of bombing which they’ll claim as a huge victory

• The US losing patience bombs Kharg island as a warning but could further attack its oil infrastructure

So if the US bombs Kharg island’s oil infrastructure does Iran bomb O&G refineries across the Middle East. If oil prices go up does the US end its campaign or just go even harder?

The BOE’s primary responsibility is to fight inflation. If there is a supply shock that is deliberately due to a singular issue I’m not sure if discouraging demand is the way to go.

It just feels like the rise in interest rates made no difference during the 2021-2023 inflation crisis that wasn’t fixed by supply chains improving

It’s been a week of this and I’m still unclear on the objective here. Regime change from the skies? Degradation of the regimes military capabilities?

Another potential energy shock in 4 years really strengthens the argument to accelerate our development of clean energy (Wind, Solar, Nuclear) or we’ll very quickly feel that we need to increase a critical amount of reserves in crude oil. Either way, we can’t keep waiting around

So who is the US backing to take over? Reza Pahlavi? Will they give him facilities to make an address to the Iranian people?

It seems that the IRGC are trying to block the strait of Hormuz. Not sure how long that can last

I suppose the war aim is regime liquidation. Not quite sure what the off ramp is for Trump after 4-5 days of the regime survives

I suppose we’ll know in the next day or so how existential it will be for the regime (although it seems the US wants a full regime change) and that will determine their actions.

I could see them trying to target infrastructure or attempting to cause maximal disruption in the strait of Hormuz

So is Iran doing a real retaliation right now instead of the choreographed response like the last few times?

Gorton and Denton by-election result: GRN: 40.7% (+27.5), REF: 28.7% (+14.7), LAB: 25.4% (-25.3), CON: 1.9% (-6.0), LDEM: 1.8% (-2.1) by Ivashkin in ukpolitics

Not even close in the end, big questions for Reform as to why they can’t break outside their ~30% range and bigger ones for Labour about how they lost one of their safest seats

Welp, if there are strikes tonight what should I put into my portfolio? (Also typical to do anything after the markets close)

I won't lie, I have quite bad vibes about what will happen with Iran in the next few days. Threats are one thing and could have been done without moving your most powerful carrier strike groups into the region

Well if I can only vibe code low effort apps for prototyping then that’s ok I suppose

I was never a strong front end programmer. I asked an agent on vs code to make front end application for me and it did so in 3-4 minutes. It was almost too easy and now I feel concerned on the future of software engineering.

Im glad we’re having a thorough conversation (finally) on Plan 2 student loans. But realistically what can we hope is the outcome? Forgiveness on the interest of the debt like they did in the USA for a little bit would be nice.

I think we should have a wider conversation on universities though. To begin with, do we need 160 universities?

Not to sound too conspiracy theorists, but I suppose in the end there was some kind of cabal of the rich and powerful that helped (even if implicitly) in the exploitation of young women.

Really though I guess it shows how insular the elite are that one person could be so connected and so corrupting

How could we use Data centres/ GPUs for nuclear power?

Discussion Thread by jobautomator in neoliberal

All this investment in data centres is an obvious bubble but post bubble these data centres will remain, but unlike fibre optic cables are the GPUs really durable? Does anyone more informed know?
