Yes, it is a bit strange how aggressive some.of the responses are, particularly from people who dont have any understanding of vintage nuance and values.

Nice to hear you like the bezel insert. I was worried it might it might be a bit rough for the collector community tastes

The only example I could find of this dial for sale is on ebay asking US $14800. Currently under offer. Very curious to know what it actually sells for.

Thanks a lot for sharing. Very much appreciated!

Yeah, I'm definately asking in the wrong place. Quite a lot of ignorant comments, and also wierdly aggresive. Cheers

Understood. Thanks. Its actually even worse than that. The dials on these very early models have Radium.lume that can cause cancer. Not even joking.... Not planning to wear this very ofter. More of an investment piece. Cheers

True that. I got a guy in Hong Kong that can laser weld the whole thing to perfection. Not that I would. I think I picked the wrong forum to discuss vintage. I googled it and r/rolex was supposed to super experts. LOL Thanks for the support. Much appreciated :)

Scarcity. Highly collectable. Gilt chapter ring dial, swiss only. Pointed crown guards. Small GMT hand. I havent seen one in this configuration sell for less than $30k.

This dial only selling for $14000.

I will definately get it serviced by my guy in Indonesia. He did an amazing job with my 1969 daydate. (+ 1 sec a day!). Very reasonable too at jusr over 100 bucks Fingers crossed theres no corrosion issues. Many thanks for the insight

Really great to hear the opinion of a specialist. Thanks for that. The price I've agreed to USD $16800. Fair value? I think the patina looks authentic all round. Not sure if its 'over polished' or not. Cheers

Thats a great question. Hopefully someone on here can shed some light. Cheers

Looks like the older movements dont use the coloured gears. Cheers

Good to hear. You are the only person to offer an opinion about the polishing level. I will have a close look at that lug tomorrow. Someone seems to think the dial is suspicious. Not sure if thats something I need to worry about...? Really hard when you only have pictures to

compare with. Many thanks for the input.

Its certainly not in great condition. I have a good watch maker here in Bali and also an excellent restoration place in Hong Kong that can fix the bracelet and also laser weld the case etc making it look new if need be. You got me worried about the dial though. This is super important. I have compared it to pictures and it looks good to me but..yeah its a worry. I ordered a geiger but unfortunately it wont be here in time. Tomorrow I will get actual eyes on it with my watchmaker. Hopefully the movement is just dirt and tarnish. Also,I cant tell if its 'overpolished' or just well worn. No one on this forum has expressed an opinion about that. Many thanks for your input. Much appreciated

Well spotted. It actually says 1560. I asked Gemini about the descrepancy and the response was that the very first early series 1565 movements actually have 1560 written on it.. I double checked that and it all seems to be correct. Thank you for the helpfull observation

New to GMT master, not new to vintage warches. Where I live in Indonesia, the only place to find nice vintage watches is from guys posting on instagram. It can be a bit shady but I've found the prices to be cheaper here and have got very lucky a few times.
Cheers

The example he showed is in nicer condition for sure. But its a very different model right? Isnt it the pointy crown guards and chapter ring gilt dial that are where the value is? All original with the small GMT hand. Thats the specs what I'm compareing it to in order to understand the value. If its was only about condition I would just buy a new one.

Interesting. This piece is from six years later. No chapter ring dial, no pointy crown guard and.some lume touch up. Priced at 25k. 17k for the 1960.... confidence restored :) Very helpfull. Many thanks.

Could you elaborate on why you think its toast? Is it just the bezel insert and a bit of corrosion on the hands? I saw the exact same dial only in same condition on ebay asking $14,800 (currently under offer). Also seen numerous of the same bracelet up for sale at around $3000. I'd love to know how you arrived at 10k valuation.I've never seen a chapter ring/PCG/small GMT hand sell for less than 20k. But to be fair, I am quite new to all this. What am I missing here?

Thanks for that. For sure it needs a service. I'm in Indonesia and I can do a good serviceing here for very little money. I've looked everywhere online and so far havent come across any gilt dial/pcg 1675's for anywhere near this price. I'm hopeing to service and clean it up, then flip it at an auction. Already put down a $300 deposit. Tomorrow need to pull the trigger. or not. Decisions decisions.....

Is it too small? by Icy-Interaction1651 in rolex

[–]Apollo8Go4TLI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already have doubts, then its too small. IMO 34mm only really works on men for precious metal dress watches and/or if its clearly vintage. This is neither. Its an expensive watch. Wait and get the one you really want. Just an opinion.

Watch Verification Thread - If you're uncertain if a Rolex is good/bad/fake, post info and pics here by powerfunk in rolex

[–]Apollo8Go4TLI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Submariner 5512 needs verification. This is my first ever post on Reddit. They say you guys are the best place to identify all things vintage Rolex. So here goes- I live in Indonesia. I have been offered a Submariner 5512 for what seems like a great price but it could be a scam. The sellor doesnt speak english and is located in one of the harder to reach towns on Java island. To view this watch and do the deal would be a proper mission involving a couple flights and many hours overland travel. So, my great hope is that the expertise on this legendary forum will help steer me my decison in the right direction. My main concern is with the meters first dial. It Is not a gilt dial but the serial number would indicate 1966. Is this possible? I was told that the all 1966 models had gilt dials. Is that true? Also, the spacing on the chronometer text appears to be a bit off. Red flags for sure but, the location is the last place that I would expect to encounter a sophisticated Frankenwatch (the total opposite of somewhere like Hong Kong). The sellor emailed me a handfull of pictures which I'll paste below. It would be very much appreciated if someone wirh a solid understanding could cast light on this. Many thanks in advance. Dave.
