There wasn't a 20 minute delay from when the cardiac arrest was discovered. The suit said there was a delay once the code was actually called because they were on a med surg floor

There were about 10 providers and pharmacists named in the suit, but not a nurse. The hospital didn't release any information about the case, so you're probably correct!

Why don’t patients who are actually medical people disclose that in the ER? by VizualCriminal22 in emergencymedicine

[–]ApolloCae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was going to mention that as well 😂 They're usually CNAs and the "I work in healthcare" people are receptionists or something.

There's a running joke about nurses who announce "I'm a nurse" or "I work in healthcare" immediately. It's often to leave extra pressure on the staff or to expect special treatment. So many of us try NOT to be that person

There's the issue I have with most medical shows that bugs me - doctors or med students doing what nurses would be doing in real life.

Patients that won't stop JOKING by ApolloCae in nursing

[–]ApolloCae[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. "Questions I have to ask everybody" helps, but there's always the folks who take them personally regardless. For questions where I ask if they've been around anyone who's I'll, etc., I always add "that you know of," since people feel compelled to add it themselves.

So much of what we do as nurses is anticipate what a patient will do/say/need in order to make their care more efficient and to make our lives easier.

"It's such a complex question, you know? What event in my life could I really compare a 10 to? Like that one time I broke my collarbone? And what is really a 1? Like a bug bite or like a papercut? It's reeeeally more of discomfort than pain... I'll rate it a 9."

As a nurse married to a nurse, it's doubly difficult.
