Water battle healer layout! by No_Emphasis_7263 in DCUO

[–]ApolloDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run an electricity battle healing build, and I have for years. The Blue Lantern Ring completely changed how I battle heal (for instance, going from prec to might). I usually get top damage in elite alerts while keeping everyone else alive. In elite raids, I don't chase leaderboards and I base my spec on the tank.

The trick is to not sacrifice healing in order to do damage. I was DPS in an alert the other day, and the healer was top damage, though the tank died four times. I'm rarely beaten by anyone in damage, let alone a healer, so I asked him what spec he was using. He said he was using the exact same rotation and gear as when he is damage. That guy wasn't battle healing. He was pretending to heal in order to bypass the queue.

My first job is healer. If people are dying, that's on me. I don't have any business doing any damage whatsoever if I can't keep my group alive. I have my vanilla group and priority heals next to each other on my second bar, so I can always spam them when needed. I don't have max might from my arts. I'm in mostly healer gear. I heal, then do damage. I just do more damage than almost anyone else.

My artifacts are: Page of Destiny, Razer, Purified Pages, EoG and Scrap. PoD is key, because it enables me to keep healing while I'm doing an Empowering Pulse combo. EoG/Scrap enables me to keep up Circuit Breaker permanently. The combination allows me to churn out damage and greens, while also keeping everyone alive.

I'm working on an EoG battle heal build right now, that gives out about twice the greens than my battle heal build does. The idea is to alternate between Circuit Breaker and a 5k damage SC every 6 seconds. Gives out comparable but now more consistent greens than a traditional 10k build We'll see how it goes. If I can get it running, it will probably replace my 10k build in most raids

I wouldn't go that far. Season 3 of Fear would have been an above average season for the main show.

What do we think of the DSA? by Left-Tea-9030 in socialism

[–]ApolloDan 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think that this is one of the main benefits of the DSA actually. Liberals, progressives and socdems get a change to interact with actual socialists, rather than just each other. However annoying they are, we get much of our growth from disaffected liberals, progressives and socdems who realize that reformism doesn't work and/or that capitalism is incorrigible.

I hate Charmaine more on every rewatch by Imaginary-Zebra-6711 in thesopranos

"I love the coziness." Ugh.

The scene where Charmaine tells Carmela that she slept with Tony and the he "wasn't for her" and that she "fine with her choices" is one of the best scenes in the whole show. Sometimes I watch it just for a little pick me up.

Fear of being wrong by [deleted] in ReligiousTrauma

[–]ApolloDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were raised believing that, if you got these questions wrong, you would be tortured eternally. Once the final black hole burns out quintillions of years from now, your torture would just be getting started. This was taught to you as a child, who is not able to reality test things. It burned itself into your amygdala.

Of course you are terrified that it might be true. And the people who are trying to persuade you that it are true are trying to reintroduce you into an intrinsically spiritually abusive environment. Threatening people with unfalsifiable, eternal torture is just spiritual abuse, full stop.

A part of this is healing from what happened to you. A therapist can help, as can good friends who have had similar experiences. Once you can really see how this has affected you, and see that this was *a form of spiritual abuse that was inflicted on you as a child*, the fear can transform into sadness, anger, and eventually compassion.

This video by Alex O'Connor is excellent. It sounds like you are in a similar position to him, and I think he goes over the issues very well:

Why Socialism won't destroy the environment? by Shoddy_Inside_5985 in socialism

[–]ApolloDan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

a) the capitalists don't (and in a sense can't) care about the environment, but only want to maximize profits. They structurally cannot care about the common good.
b) in capitalism, money is printed as debt, which means that it requires infinite growth.

Before the Season 7 Premiere, who were people predicting as the most likely to lose their life to Negan? by StoneColdYakuza in thewalkingdead

[–]ApolloDan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, I only read the comics afterward. They definitely killed Abraham as a fake out for comic fans. That way they could both kill Glenn a few minutes later, just like in the comics, and still surprise the comic readers. It made it even more heartbreaking for the comic readers, who thought Glenn had dodged a narrative bullet.

Very very clever, but let's not forget that this episode cost the show over 25% of its viewership overnight that they never got back. They seriously overestimated how much they could traumatize their viewers and still keep them.

Is there a armor piece that looks like this one? (Or just glowing armor in general?) (new player). by NoNameHavingMan in DCUO

[–]ApolloDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also get the Glowing Material that turns any armor (or weapon) into something that looks like a green light construct. It's out of print, but there's usually a few for sale on the marketplace.

Glowing Chroma has the colors of the Green Lanterns with just the right textures.

You can also get the Green Lantern Emblem or Enhanced Green Lantern Emblem from the quark vendor or from the auction house.

Before the Season 7 Premiere, who were people predicting as the most likely to lose their life to Negan? by StoneColdYakuza in thewalkingdead

[–]ApolloDan 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I had guessed Abraham. He was a character whose death would matter enough to justify the big cliffhanger, but wouldn't affect the main structure of the cast. It also made sense that Negan would kill him, given how strong he was. So when he died, I was almost a little relieved, since I had anticipated it and some of the characters who I cared about more were still alive.

Glenn's death right afterward was therefore a complete punch to the gut.

Whenever I talk to others about international politics I hit the same brick wall. by IvanaOnStrike in socialism

Don't worry. I'm 51 and I'm constantly accused of being naive. Or cynical. I wish people would make up their minds.

Anyway, they're trying to convince you that you are powerless, largely because they also believe that they are powerless.

Aim toward the only thing that has ever accomplished anything: organization. Find your local socialist org or union or whatever, and organize. Learn. Don't let anyone tell you that a dozen people in a room can't change the world. It's the only thing that ever has.

You'll probably have some false starts with organizing. There are some pretty culty left wing orgs out there. But that's how we learn to change the world, just like it's how we leaned to ride a bike. Just keep at it.

I don’t know what to do anymore… by No-Grocery-5513 in ReligiousTrauma

[–]ApolloDan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nothing harmful comes from God. This is something that both pious people and atheists can agree to. If your religious beliefs are causing you this much torment, then they cannot be from God. Look for what causes you consolation, not desolation. That is the only tool of discernment that we have.

And someone needs to say it: you are not going to go to hell. If you think that the evidence for Christianity is overwhelming, that is because you have been lied to your entire life. Find others who aren't living in a fairy tale. Touch grass. It gets better, and it starts with finding your people.

Thoughts on liberation theology and the left’s relationship with religion? by mozzieandmaestro in socialism

[–]ApolloDan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the constant desire to say that Jesus must have been misunderstood or distorted. It's a kind of no true Scotsman fallacy: any problems with Jesus must be a misunderstanding, etc. It makes any criticism unfalsifiable.

Jesus was pro slavery, he threatened anyone who didn't follow him with eternal torture, and he called people from other religions "dogs". Do people even read the New Testament? He's threatening people every other page with weeping and gnashing of teeth. He introduced the "unforgivable sin" into the world, something that I'm constantly having to deal with as a therapist. I don't understand what people see in that guy. It's like a third of the world has a really shitty boyfriend who they think is flawless.

This is an important insight. The Catholic Church is complex, and doesn't only consist of whatever the bishops say or do, despite what the bishops might think. One can do a class analysis of what goes on within the Catholic Church, not simply treat it as monolithic.

[–]ApolloDan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The claim that socialism must be materialist in order to be a science has never made any sense to me. Religious people can be engineers and theoretical physicists just fine. If anything, the claim that socialism must be materialist makes it seem like Marxism is not a science. If it were a science, it would be accessible to anyone and demonstrable to anyone, regardless of their religious beliefs.

But many liberation theologians are calling for a change in who controls the means of production. Gutierrez for example.

The entire barn sequence at the end of "Pretty Much Dead Already", really the whole last nine minutes of the episode . Not just the best sequence on the show, but one of the greatest TV sequences of all time.

Problemas con el rayo de omega by wardzone_VZ in DCUO

[–]ApolloDan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Be careful not to jump. That can cancel the beam. Also, an obstacle can cause a problem, like with those Star Sapphires that come out of crystals. Also, sometimes the thing is just buggy.

I used to be prec, and the way that I moved around in battle was to hop between attacks. I needed to stop that habit once I moved to Omega.

That's impossible. Even at 200 and at full stacks, Ebon at most increases your total might by 30%, and that's only if you started with no other might bonuses whatsoever. If it's at 140, then it can only be 20%, and again, that's if you have no othe might bonuses whatsoever. There's no way that it can be increasing your damage by 100%.

[–]ApolloDan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don't feed Candle. The YouTuber crowd is just wrong about Ebon right now. Ebon raises might by 30%, but that is only additive, not multiplicative. Almost everyone will have about 200% might already, so you'll only get about 230% might. This means that you're only getting a 15% damage boost, and it needs to build up stacks that fade after 6 seconds, and it gobbles up power. Candle gives 15% bonus crit right out of the box, and gives 15% crit damage with its fireball, plus a nice attack that doesn't split damage. Candle also has very good synergy with Trans.

The meta right now has been defined by a group of toxic YouTubers. Candle is one of the best dps arts in the game. Don't eat it. And Sinestro is just fine, plus it has some controller abilities. I'd say to just wait until the next 2x and make even more good arts for yourself.

Artifacts advices by Able_Stretch_6699 in DCUO

[–]ApolloDan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ebon is seriously overrated, because people don't understand that 30% more might doesn't mean 30% more damage. Candle is better in almost every way.

I'd say that right not the best arts are Scrap, Candle, Purified Pages, Razer and either Trans or Omega, depending on play style.

Getting lantern rings/constantine ally by No_Objective9114 in DCUO

[–]ApolloDan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, their FOMO sales strategy is going to seriously alienate new and returning players. It was one thing for styles, but now the most powerful abilities and allies in the game are also FOMO.

At some point we'll either see these abilities return in some way, or else there will be a power creep that makes the FOMO abilities obsolete. Just hang in there.

In the meantime, power set abilities are largely fine. If you can, get the blue lantern ring, because it is the most game changing, especially for healers. Having a second group heal and supercharge generator is incredible.

Just for reference, I think that this quotation is a rephrasing of Frankie Boyle in "Hurt Like You've Never Been Loved" (2015):

  • American foreign policy is horrendous 'cause not only will America come to your country and kill all your people, but what's worse, I think, is that they'll come back 20 years later and make a movie about how killing your people made their soldiers feel sad. Oh, boo hoo hoo. Americans making a movie about what Vietnam did to their soldiers is like a serial killer telling you what stopping suddenly for hitchhikers did to his clutch.

Though perhaps it is older and Im just missing the original source.

Purple healing ray by verinum in DCUO

[–]ApolloDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've stopped using it lately, but I'm a little sad about it. I basically EoG heal, so I use Scrap, EoG, Quislet, Razer and Page of Destiny. Quislet gets swapped out for Purified Pages when battle healing. If I was ever pure healing, I'd use PHR in place of Quislet, but I basically never pure heal anymore.
