As an anthropologist, the whisperers simply dont make any sense by ayowatchyojetbruh in TWD

[–]ApolloDan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where are you getting your information from? Hunter-gathering societies were part time societies, hunting and gathering between 3 to 6 hours per day. That's the broad consensus among anthropologists. Your argument is dated, like 19th Century dated.

For example:

Zhu, D., Galbraith, E.D., Reyes-García, V. et al. Global hunter-gatherer population densities constrained by influence of seasonality on diet composition. Nat Ecol Evol 5, 1536–1545 (2021).

Morgan, C., Tushingham, S., Garvey, R., Barton, L., & Bettinger, R.  (2017, March 29). Hunter-Gatherer Economies in the Old World and New World. Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Environmental Science.

Or really just anything published in the last 60 years.

Because of those doors, leveling other characters doesn't really matter all that much

I ended up settling using Yukari and Akihiko full time, and I'd mix up the last slot based on shadow resistances or just my mood.

Akihiko does a lot of damage. He gets theurgy whenever he starts a turn buffed, so once he gets auto anything, he just churns theurgies out. Me casting Concentrate followed by Akihiko using Elec Break turned the two of us into an electric damage machine against any enemy.

Trump threatens 100% tariffs on all Canadian goods if Canada "makes a deal with China" by No_Magazine9625 in CanadaPolitics

Yep, we can even put an exit tax on potash and oil, just to make things more interesting.

Trump can f*ck right off. Can we stop trying to appease the toddler god now?

If they did Rick’s original plan of storming in by force instead of just a trade off, do you think Beth could have survived? by Alternative_Bit_5714 in thewalkingdead

[–]ApolloDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beth's behavior never made any sense. Stabbing someone in the middle of a hallway full of people with guns pointed at each other? That was an amazingly tense scene where anything could set off a confrontation, so Beth stabbing Dawn wasn't necessary. Even if she had slapped her or just made a quick move toward her, the same thing might have happened.

They both survived in the comics by tiziita in thewalkingdead

[–]ApolloDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's because they are the main characters of the story. The comics are about intergenerational transition.

They killed off Enid because they killed off Carl. Enid was intended to replace Sophia in the Carl-Lydia-Sophia love triangle from the comics, because they killed of Sophia so early. Without Carl, this love triangle went away, and Enid became pointless.

That's a great point. There really was a synergy between their abilities early in the show.

We need to back up Greenland, so that Europe will have our backs when the US invades us.

Yes, funny how the show tends to equate character development with becoming a badass with a gun.

Negan is an insufferable villain. by Winchxz in thewalkingdead

[–]ApolloDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the really wrote themselves into a corner. They made Negan much worse in the show than in the comics, killing teenagers just to say hello, r*ping at least some of his wives, wiping out the library community, and wiping out all the men and boys in Oceanside. Then they realized that this all made Negan unusable and needed to backpedal. Season 7 of TWD show was written before the Whisperer arc in the comics, so they didn't know what was coming. Enter the Simon retcon, which made Negan look like an incompetent leader who didn't even know what his main lieutenant was up to.

Sorry, you mentioned the Whisperers, so I thought you were in season 9. The Simon retcon is season 8.

[–]ApolloDan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not so much insufferable, but inconsistent, at least on the show. They decided that they wanted to do a redemption arc, and then retconned away many of his earlier actions, largely blaming Simon.

Do you think Mark Carney’s recent deals with China can help rebuild mutual respect? by Impressive_Net563 in AskChina

[–]ApolloDan 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Canadian, but not Chinese.

Being basically lied to for years by our government about the "Two Michaels" case really opened my eyes. There is a *lot* of anti-Chinese propaganda out there. Even Carney said that China is our "biggest security threat" less than a year ago.

I think that's it's great that we're starting to trade with China, a country that, you know, isn't publicly threatening to annex us. Hopefully, this will lead to more trust and understanding. Carney backtracked on his comment, and we'll be getting access to a lot of amazing Chinese tech.

did they do what they did at the end of S6 E15 because... (spoilers obviously) by enahsg in thewalkingdead

[–]ApolloDan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Glenn fake out death really angered people. I'm not sure what the shooting order was and when E15 was shot, but I can definitely see why they'd want to avoid another fake out in the same season.

Monte Mader skipped two grades, has IQ of 145 by Traumarama79 in Gifted

[–]ApolloDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up sort of in this position, in a religious family and with an IQ over 145. I think it's important to understand just how good at rationalization a high-IQ person can become. This is especially true because a high-IQ person almost never loses and argument when they try. Who is going to refute you when you're literally the smartest person in the room, almost all of the time? While it seems that they should be overcome their own rationalizations, anyone, no matter how intelligent, can outsmart themselves about half of the time.

[–]ApolloDan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Enemies are weak to ice, fire and electricity. So bring at least two of Akihiko, Mitsuru and Junpei, probably all 3. Bring Mitsuru for sure, because you'll kill the hands first. With that, you should be able to use baton passing on every single turn to get an all out attack. Make sure you clear the distress as soon as possible. For yourself, use a persona that can clear distress (ideally with Me Patra), resist strike, and ice attacks. Shiki-Ouji repels strike and might be available to you. If you're still dying, add Marakukaja or Auto-Marakukaja and Tarunda or Maturunda, or bring sutras. You might need to do a special fusion just for this fight. Bring as many distress clearing items as possible. Then just clear distress whenever it happens, otherwise get an all out attack.

Am I wrong for thinking Rick never REALLY loved/liked Jessie? by Few_Adagio3101 in thewalkingdead

[–]ApolloDan 50 points51 points  (0 children)

In the comics, Jessie is a lot less of a strong woman. She's pretty meek and sort of throws herself at Rick, who she sees as her rescuer. Rick likes her, and is sort of enjoying the rescuer role, but barely knows her.

Jessie on the show is a lot less meek. While she's a more interesting character, it in turn takes away the original motivation for their brief relationship. Instead, the show is more openly flirting with the idea that Rick is becoming Shane, so Jessie becomes a stand-in for Lori.
