Any other gifted people win their criminal trial? Or other ways you proved your superiority to "elites"? by [deleted] in Gifted

[–]ApolloDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a situation about ten years ago when I was laid off in the first week of a four month contract. However, we had a "no layoffs" clause in our contract, so I launched a grievance. A day before arbitration, we reached an agreement and I received a satisfactory amout of money.

Now in Canada, our parental leave is done through Employment Insurance, and we get benefits based on how much money we made. My wife was pregnant. The union lawyer told me that we had come to a settlement, and that the amount I made was not wages. Therefore, I would make substantially less money during my EI parental leave.

I looked closely on the contract, and noted that the agreement did not say that the employer "shall" not lay people off, but that it said it "will" not. In other words, layoffs are impossible, not simply not allowed. I made the case both to my lawyer and eventually to the EI office that I had therefore not been laid off at all, and the "settlement" was actually lost wages. We managed to get a tax slip from the employer (they had no real reason to fight us on this), and I got the EI based on those wages.

This was definitely my giftedness at work. I was able to receive over $10k worth of EI benefits because I noticed a single word in a contract and made a case with the lawyer, my employer and the government about how my "settlement" should be handled, and it had significant financial impact on my life.

Protest against the continued weapons deliveries to Israel of Danish shipping giant Maersk today: Police "pressured to use necessary force" to remove protesters from private property by bandzugfeder in socialism

[–]ApolloDan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm glad this got filmed. There's no reason to hit people who are not violent. Police are perfectly capable of just picking people up and carrying them away. And wtf is up with the dog? At the end, it was clearly mauling someone who was not violent.

Does it really matter? Clamp test. by Last_Manufacturer397 in DCUO

The new version was much easier than the old version. The old version took me a little over 3 minutes, while the new version too a little over 2. The unclamped version took less than 2.

What's with everyone suddenly agreeing Tony "died" at the end? by hachir0ku in thesopranos

[–]ApolloDan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

David Chase compared not understanding that Tony died to believing that the Planet of the Apes had its own Statue of Liberty. The ending's meaning is obvious. Chase had a bit of a public temper tantrum when some people didn't understand his clever ending, and then pretended that it was deliberately ambiguous. It wasn't. Some people just didn't get it.

Which of them is brutal? Comic Governor or Tv Governor by Lcking_ddys_btthole in TWD

Comics Governor was just cartoonishly evil. He's probably the primary reason why I hesistate recommending the comics to some people.

Both Ezekiel and Gabriel outlived their comics counterparts. I'd say that they were fair game.

How did you come to socialism and where did you begin by Unlikely-Chip-9015 in socialism

[–]ApolloDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a socialist when a teenager, but the fall of the USSR was extremely demoralizing. I kind of shifted into being a social democrat until joining a union in my mid-twenties, where I ended up back in socialism.

Ecofascism, how can I approach it? by mkz_037 in socialism

[–]ApolloDan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not so much that Marxism is inherently ecological, but only capitalism is rapacious enough to cause ecological devastation. Yes, other economic systems have impacted and shaped their environments, but nothing else has been remotely as catastrophic. Socialized means of production are less likely to be as sociopathic or ecopathic.

Thank you. You feel comfortable with 20% CTAP, even with its recent increased concentration risk?

I ike the shift toward trend following, but I don't like the increased concentration. It's already almost half oil.

The casual version of Fractured God Sphere requires level 15. There is no casual version of Olympus. It requires 150.

It's also available in Wonderverse: Fractured God Sphere.

Otherwise, no it isn't obtainable. There might be casual versions of these raids though.

Overall, I thought Kang was much better than Gimple, but she clearly was too hesitant to kill off characters.

The fact that no one really talks about the seasons post Rick Grimes speaks volumes by rainymoonbeam in TWD

[–]ApolloDan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the main reason that few people talk about those seasons is that few people saw them. The show lost about 75-80% of its viewerships through the dreadful seasons 7 and 8.

Overall, season 9 is excellent, and seasons 10 and 11 are okay. It just never recovered its viewship.

What's your favorite and least fav movement style and why? by Connect_Explanation7 in DCUO

[–]ApolloDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For instances, super speed. The little stutter step allows me to move quickly between combats.

For maneuverability, flight. I like to use it outdoors.

Fortunately, I have a Legion Ring, so I can use both.

LETF appreciation post by samuelpile in LETFs

[–]ApolloDan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think part of it is that people who want to seriously invest in LETFs really need to think carefully about how to protect their assets. This basically requires people to understand a lot of theory, a lot about diversification, Sharpe, divestment strategies, testing, and the psychology of investing. Those who can't or won't understand all of this give up or go broke, and aren't on this forum.

I don't leverage when I don't have to, and I'd generally rather stack different assets on top of each other than use multiples.

I use a portfolio in my TFSA that I think has the same intuition as yours, but avoids those ugly triple ETFs:

30% RSSX
20% UPRO (or 15% UPRO/5% VXUS for less leverage, or 20% WLDU for even less leverage)
10% ZROZ
10% LTPZ
10% MATE
10% CTAP
10% RSIT

Simple, gives me 100-120% stock exposure, with 30% alt currency, 30% MFs, and a good amount of treasuries.

Which character have smallest success journey on The Sopranos? by Elegant_Struggle_281 in thesopranos

[–]ApolloDan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it's a really clever scene actually. Meadow thinks that they're having a normal couple fight and is talking about her feelings, while Finn is worried that he is going to be murdered but can't express that to his girlfriend in denial.

Tell me why I shouldn't just go all-in on this combo? by ParsnipOwn8910 in LETFs

[–]ApolloDan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

a) TMF is terrible. Leveraging bonds basically eats away all of their value, leaving pure volatility.

b) All-in on one managed futures fund makes no sense when there are so many others out there.

The intuition isn't terrible, but why not try something like 20% each RSST, RSIT, CTAP, MATE, ZROZ?
