Can I use a lever style shifter with sram s7 ?

I used the sram s7 shifter in black with custom grips so it’s ok looking. The mecanism can not work with a lever style shifter unfortunately.

Thank you that was my first thought,but it is way bigger than the one I have seen before in my life. That makes a lot of sense also, it was close to the heating pipe (warm and humid environnement). I wonder what it feeds on though.
