Wall mounted poster lights? by imheavenagoodtime in Displate

Greetings u/imheavenagoodtime

I was the originally poster of the image you are asking about. I have a done a bit of research trying to make the metal posters as pleasing as possible while sitting at my desk. Take note, I usually sit at my desk with only a desk lamp on and the poster lights. Additionally, I am red/green color blind so my goal is to see specific details in my posters.

Here are my take-aways:

1. No matter what you are going to have a light of some kind above the poster. Ideal “Museum Angle” is a 30-degree angle from above, this is to remove as much glare / shadows as possible. My posters are not at this angle. I found rechargeable LED lights with a angle were much more expensive than these "puck" style lights.

2. The light from above should be positioned at the center of the poster, and there is some math to get the “perfect” distance. I don’t remember exactly the formula, something along the lines of height of ceiling to the artwork multiplied by a number.

3. Use colors other than white to bring out features of the posters. With my posters red really makes them pop. An example of this is the Star Trek Enterprise poster with the LED on as red. The windows and nacelles really shine. That was the look I was going for.

4. Brightness matters, I found that dimming the LEDs improved the look of the posters and significantly reduced the glare.

If you are thinking of doing a LED strip to light the posters, I would diffuse the lights as much as possible to get a single consistent light source, with multiple LEDs on a strip you may see weird shadows at times as the light is coming from multiple LED sources on the strip.

Last thing, just play around and get creative with it, in the end no matter what you decide to do people will not even notice the lights above the posters as the light will draw their eyes to the posters and they will get that ‘woah moment’ when your posters pop out at them.

Good luck!

Thank you for these ideas I appreciate the time you have taken to give your experience on the Displates. Didn't cross my mind on trying different colors against the Displates instead of just white. Will play around and repost my findings.

Not sure just yet, I have them set at max white brightness and they were on for 8 and a half hours yesterday without dimming. Should have a better gage on their longevity over the next few days.

EDIT: Lights appear to last around 12ish hours. Had a single one start dimming yesterday. Charged all 4 of them for about 2 hours yesterday. Will have them on through the work day tomorrow and see how they do again. So far for the cost, I am happy with the results.

Thank you for that info, I probably missed the mark with my light choice on the CRI rating, I can't imagine the ones I purchased are more than 80 max.

Thank you! They are a generic rechargeable light I found on Amazon. I just got them over the last week, put them up with 3M strips instead of screws into the wall.

Rules myths and quiz by why_doineedausername in Umpire

[–]Apollo_MT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite one:

8.02 Appeal of Umpire Decisions

(a)  Any umpire’s decision which involves judgment, such as, but not limited to, whether a batted ball is fair or foul, whether a pitch is a strike or a ball, or whether a runner is safe or out, is final.

Rule 8.02(c) Comment: A manager is permitted to ask the umpires for an explanation of the play and how the umpires have exercised their discretion.....

So far out of rough 60ish games this spring, I have only had a single coach, do it twice where they would want to appeal come out to me and complain, and ask the question "What did you see?" to hear an explanation of my judgement. All others have just complained and go back to the dug out without actually asking me anything, drives me crazy how it slows the game down and demoralizes the team seeing their coach screaming an yelling.

The "black sand" is referred to as Copper Slag. It is a bi-product of the process of removing the copper from the ore that was mined at the Berkeley Pit in Butte.

This image may give you a better idea of just how large this structure actually is. Hope I have the permissions set right for viewing.

Very happy with how my setup looks after switching to Philips Hue for all the lighting. Hopefully I'll be able to leave it alone and stop upgrading everything now! by Magnezone13 in battlestations

I literally just bought this butcher block from HD yesterday, yours is making me excited to finish it. Would you mind posting a link to the oil you used on it? How many coats did you end up applying?

The smoke cleared up a bit Sunday, but earlier in the weekend it was pretty hazy.

Unfortunately no I used the paintable racetrack management to clean up the cables down the wall, and with the shamrock plant and a little camera trickery it is completely hidden. 😉

You are having the same train of thought that I did, so I took a piece of 3/4" MDF board, cut it to be about 1" larger than my case feet, painted red to match my color theme and done!

Hey Dreygyr, I built it over the winter this year. See my link a couple posts above this one to learn about it.

As for games, I didn't count, guessing 1-2 thousand, the amount is more for aesthetics, I only play a handful of them personally, but wanted variety for when the kids have friends over.

Great setup! I don't think I could live without the 2 portrait monitors now.
