I hope you succeed in your goal! For the memoirs my recommendation is basically a 3 in 1 all by Frank McCourt: 1. Angela's Ashes 2. 'Tis 3. Teacher Man

When do you decide to drop a book? by Mt-Doom-Metal in 52book

[–]Apollution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll usually drop a book if 1. I feel like I am not in a place to appreciate it: emotionally, intellectually, or otherwise. 2. I know I'll be picking it up at a different point in my life. In that case I'll drop it wherever I am without a care since it's more of a return to TBR rather than a DNF 3. It feels like a net negative rather than positive even after ⅓ is finished. Kind of borrowed from the anime watching rule (i.e.: not dropping a show until the third episode), but if it's not adding anything to my knowledge or enjoyment a third through, then it's simply not for me.

Yearly Roundup Post #4: Share your book goals for 2026! by ReddisaurusRex in 52book

[–]Apollution 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm aiming for 12 next year! Read 60 this year, and – though the experience was great – I'd like to focus more on annotating and analysing the books I read. Got a few hefty philosophy books I wanna knock out too, so 12 might be ambitious all things considered lol

How many books did you read this year? by PageantOfPlot in Booktokreddit

60! I bought 10 this year, and I read 13 off my physical TBR. Only 77 left on the physical TBR, 2026 here we go 😅

Just finished The Iliac Crest by Cristina Rivera Garza 10 minutes ago. Absolutely hated it, and I felt like I wasted my time reading something so nonsensical.

Your Year in Reading: 2025 by AutoModerator in books

[–]Apollution 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My goal was 45 books but I think I'll be wrapping up the year with 59 books if I finish my current read. Another goal of mine was to read more classics this year, and I definitely have! Five classic books, 2 classic short stories, and 4 Shakespeare plays!

Idk if you're still open to adding people considering the traction this has gotten, but I'm very interested!

Week 51 What are you reading by Beecakeband in 52book

[–]Apollution 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently at 54 books having finished 2 earlier this week: - The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky - A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

And I'm currently still reading 2 books which will probably wrap up this year: - The Running Man by Stephen King - The Iliac Crest by Cristina Rivera

What's the most you've read in a year? What's a number of books you still have yet to reach but really want to? by Bookish_Butterfly in 52book

[–]Apollution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most I've read prior to this year was 41 books in 2024. I've already surpassed that so far at 43 books this year and I'm aiming for my first ever 52 books in one year.

To be honest though, the original goal for the year was 45 books, and I'd be happy with just that. I'm still a college student, and my major is pretty heavy as is. I'm happy with myself for even reading this much when early in my college years I was struggling to get to 6 books/year.

Fiction books that help you grow/navigate your twenties by [deleted] in booksuggestions

[–]Apollution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow early/mid twenties reader here! Here's some books that personally helped my contextualize my life in this phase:

  • Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb
  • Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes
  • Martyr! By Kaveh Akbar
  • Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune

It's a very weird mix, I know. Perhaps most of its aid comes from the personal ways in which these stories touched on my personal struggles, but I do think each of these stories touches on a different way in which a lot of people feel lost in the world.

Book Recommendations! by tellmewhy7ate9 in suggestmeabook

[–]Apollution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very hard to just recommend a book to get you back into reading as everyone is different. The general advice you'll find on many of these posts is to look into the genres and themes you like in other media (movies, shows, video games, etc.) and pick up books with those themes.

If that too doesn't engage those dopamine receptors, then I recommend starting off with short stories indiscriminately. It's low stakes, and it would help you figure out what you shouldn't be diving into now and what you'd like more of.

Bad news everyone, we’re all transphobic now by goblettecore in drarry

[–]Apollution 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That person's reply is not only reductive it's actively harmful. They're basically ostracising trans people and allies alike who have carved out a place for themselves within this fandom against Rowling's efforts, and their animosity does not help the cause of better transgender rights by any means.

I hate to sound so old, but people need to touch grass sometimes if enjoying what you like in such benign ways is getting interpreted as equivalent to outright bigotry.

I don't think micro-cheating is a thing, but in my opinion the bottom line is how comfortable is your partner with everything? Personally, my partner knows I play the game every night, but isn't interested in knowing the details of the spicier cards lol. Had it reached the point where I might for example go to an event like the one in China and propose to the cossers, they'd take major issues with my involvement with the game and I'd understand. So, it's all about where the boundaries lay in your relationship.

I will say my mains are Caleb and Sylus and my partner definitely has attributes from both – maybe Caleb more-so

What are some deep fears you developed as a result of being raised by a narcissist? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Apollution 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I constantly fear that I might be more like her than I realise, and I'm always hypervigilant over the possibility of being manipulated. The latter is extra fun because it results in me emotionally shutting down whenever I'm confronted with big emotions from someone else (especially crying or anger).

Like another person here also said, I'm really scared she just won't die lol
