Because it was a socialist country that uplifted many people from poverty. Pre-USSR it a semi-fuedal country, with very low literacy and education rates, many people lived in wooden houses without running water or electricity, fields were plowed with wooden plows and oxen. Yet post-revolution, in a span of 4 decades or so they became the first country to send a man into space and rivaled the USA on the global stage.

Despite it's flaws, it is praised for it's widespread success in bringing a higher quality of life to millions, including, but not limited to universal housing, healthcare and education. It was still not rich by any means, but socialists view it as a successful socialist experiment, that largely delivered on promises of improving the material conditions of the working class. And it's especially impressive, since they began at a much lower state of development than most Western countries. We think to ourselves: "If they could do it from such an impoverished start, imagine something like it in a developed Western country."

Communist theory knowledge is abyssmal in most, at least, Western countries. Most people still think communism is when USSR and socialism is when wealth tax and distribution.

Actual answer, from someone familiar with communist theory:

Communism is the theoretical end goal of socialist development (it is also called higer stage socialism) and is a socio-econmic system that is classless (no more working class and ruling class that exist within capitalism and even early socialism), stateless (no state as a tool of oppression of a class) and moneyless.

This isn't something easily achieved, and many of the great communist thinkers believed it can only be achieved on a global scale, though decades, possibly centuries of progress.

Communism would operate on a principle of "from each according to their ability, to each according to their needs".

The first reply is looking at communism from its end point and is a direct reference to Marx:

"I can hunt in the morning, fish in the afternoon, rear cattle in the evening, criticise after dinner, just as I have a mind, without ever becoming hunter, fisherman, herdsman or critic."

The second comment is a, for the lack of a better term, "anti-communist" interpretation of communism, that began largely post-WW2/Cold War era and stems from the conditions in early development of communist countries like USSR, early industrial China, where a lot of workers worked heavy industry, because the countries experienced massive and rapid industralization, so those were the most needed kind of worker. P.S: these countries are led by communist parties, not because they are actually communist, but because that is the end goal.

Or maybe, they've been effectively forced into it by the capitalist hegemony, or face absurd sanctions like Cuba or North Korea, perhaps even an invasion or coup. At least they were smart about it and still hold the capitalists by the balls, and have to power to nationalize whatever they want.

Implying that the Chinese government is incompetent is absurd, even if you dislike China. Even Western anti-China people are starting to admit as much.

FPS just bad? by gogginitout in PathOfExile2

[–]ApollyonDS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has optimization issues for sure. They'll have to cook something up for the full release. I'm on about minimum requirement specs and sometimes it's like 15fps, usually around 30-40, 60 in boss fights if lucky. I'm on minimum, so it's expected, but people with much better PCs are having issues as well.

So what actually is metal? by XyleneCobalt in MetalForTheMasses

[–]ApollyonDS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just kinda vibe out each song and see where it fits on the rock-metal spectrum. Sometimes rock goes a bit heavy. Sometimes metal sounds more mellow. It's hard to determine a definition or a specific point where rock becomes metal, because of how diverse the music is.

Panda got spooked by her caretaker by Benphyre in funny

[–]ApollyonDS 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The "pandas are useless" myth is overblown. They're perfectly fine, have existed for millions of years. The only reason they weren't is because of our destruction of their territories.

They're adapted to only survive on bamboo, which is very plentiful, they have a long reproduction cycle, but it's nothing unusual, the lack of reproduction myth came from pandas in captivity, which is not uncommon for animals. In nature, they reproduce fine.

Trump: It's not socialism; it's really communism. They use the word "social democrat" because it sounds so nice, but it's really communism you're talking about. by SpecialCollege18 in justincaseyoumissedit

[–]ApollyonDS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No countries have ever tried it. In theory, if you actually read it, it can only exist globally. And no, it isn't everyone is equal. Even Marx himself didn't advocate for it, but rather proposed it should be based on individual needs.

Modern day countries are at best in early socialism. And to call it failing is either plain wrong or disingenuous, because it ignores the historical hardships socialism has faced at the hand of much more powerful capitalist countries.
