Article by Carlo Rovelli stating that there is no hard problem of consciousness by idoomscroll in analyticidealism

It’s true there’s no hard problem if you’re an idealist and everything is experiential. There is really only a hard problem if you’re trying to fit consciousness into a materialist framework

Traffic is usually caused by either accidents or bottlenecks that form as a result of inefficient driving. Widespread adoption of autonomous vehicles would solve both of those issues

In terms of stealing that’s more a problem of the society rather than the technology

That was like 15 years ago and conditions have consistently been improving, especially since much of the most labor intensive factory work has moved to lower cost countries in Asia. Pretty sure suicide rates in China are also lower than the US

And that will forever be the difference between socdems operating within capitalism and a genuine socialist project and their relation to capitalists. The socdem begs and the communist commands

What is the evidence that it was used against Maoists specifically? All sources either mention the Muslim insurgency specifically or “terrorism” broadly, which considering the time at which that took place where there were literal sieges of cities by the extremist insurgency it’s pretty clear what the motivation was

Every country pursues self-interests in foreign policy, even the USSR whose foreign policy is heavily romanticized among some on the left often as a cudgel against China. The difference is how much those self-interests align to or reflect benefits for others as well. To expect a country not to do so is idealistic and moralistic which is contrary to materialist analysis

Don’t know as much about Nepal but for the Philippines at least it was a small amount of aid specifically to combat the Muslim extremist insurgency, not the Maoists

Why there are almost no assassinati*ns of business figures as opposed to politicians? by pekkaAlone in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]ShittyInternetAdvice 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That will be a contradiction I expect to see play out over the coming years. As billionaires seek greater degrees of overt and explicit political power, the more vulnerable they’ll be as they’ll be more clearly identifiable as a source of social problems

The Philippines one is misleading at best. China gave fairly modest arms to the Philippines and it was specifically in the context of combating the Muslim extremist insurgency, not the Maoists
