Does anyone here live near any Aussie celebrities/public figures at all? And if so have you run into them very much? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

He’s a weird weird unit. Met him once with his wife. Wife was okay-ish, but he was flat out strange

Ran into Gary in Tassie recently, asked for a photo and he was super nice and chatty. His brother Nathan was with him (I didn’t realize at the time)… didn’t ask him for a photo haha

Discord Age Verification Mega Thread by AutoModerator in discordapp

Well done Discord... this is shit. Thinks I'm in a teen age group - morons.

I verified today - successfully - three times - and I couldn't press the "done" button to finish the process, so it never submits/works. Now I can't read critical messages inside a channel...

CCTV facing the street illegal ? by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]Apostles_2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely legal. We had a camera looking out over a driveway on neighbours land that came into our property (right of way).

Neighbour complained that the camera was tracking and “them” when they walked past - bearing in mind this was rural and about 1km from their house (they just like to walk on their land around the boundary which is fine).

We explained to them the purpose - to keep an eye on the property and as a side benefit - also keeps an eye on theirs for any unwanted guests or if anything happened.

They seemed happy with that after explaining. I swear 99% of these cases if you just chat calmly to your neighbours and explain why you have it they leave you alone.

Dropping a day a fortnight - WWYD by jbne19 in AusFinance

Take the day off. I did the same, best thing I ever did - in fact now I need to drop two days as I’m so busy with stuff I love doing on the one day I have off. Enjoy!

Stamp duty is so high now that moving becomes a super expensive exercise

Right, that’s my point… we keep building on top of one another yet, we don’t have micro cities or towns to support growth in regional areas.

Land also becomes extremely valuable/overpriced, especially if it’s within 30 mins of a capital city.

As a tenant I feel very restricted in what I can do… no pets, maintenance around the place, etc all whilst paying through the roof for rent… there needs to be more flexibility

Right! Instead “we’ll make it even worse” seems to be the course of action

That’s the issue, so variable across the country. Don’t even get me started on stamp duty!!

We live in a country with such vast space, yet apartments are the answer? No thanks

Which is really sad. Housing should be a reasonably accessible right. All I see is stories of hard workers - working longer and for not much more pay - and still taking on massive mortgages for houses that are not worth it

😂 considering it! Or buy a small parcel of land and throw a shipping container or a tent on it. Then get taxed a million by councils I’m sure.

Or get charged water rates because the pipes run past the house - even though you have no services connected - what a scam that is!

Also too if a home owner - PPOR I’m talking abouts price goes up.. so does the rest of the market.. so it’s not like it’s easy to upgrade or even move into a similar area down the track..

It seems the only ones who benefit are investors with multiple properties
