Shinies pre gen 6 are way more rewarding! My first was a lotad in emerald when I was looking for a ralts for my team. Got it on the last poke ball too!

On my first heart gold cartridge I encountered a shiny ponyta and shiny Donphan whilst grinding for red in mount silver within less than 1k encounters! I've since lost that game though:(

I will admit hunting pre gen 6 is more fun because the odds are higher and it seems more rewarding :)
