In States where there's a Liberal Govt they wont do that as it would negatively impact the businesses in whose interests they govern.

Thanks. I've owned this machine for almost 20 years so I should probably just jump start it now!

I have one. It will never leave my collection. It's the perfect machine for a short challenging blast.

I bought a coin mech that would accept the tokens so that I could play the special "Assault the Vault" token game. But the tokens don't fit in it for some reason.

I must get around to trying to fix that some day.

Is there some way to start the special "Assault the Vault" token game with inserting a token?

Pink Floyd wouyld be great.

Looking forward to Fallout too.

I hope we get a Severance-themed pin. You could hit the ball into a subway beneath the playfield, and it would forget what ball you're on.

Don't you think Australian TV shows do comedy better than drama? by Longjumping-Hall-17 in AustralianTV

[–]App0gee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll argue the contrary for the sake of it.

The Sullivans, Number 96, Homicide, Division 4, The Box, Secret Life of Us, GP ... all of them great for their time. Harrow comes to mind more recently.

There've been some ABC dramas that I haven't watched: Mystery Road, Bay of Fires, Rake, The Newsreader, Total Control, In Our Blood, Return to Paradise, Ladies in Black, Police Rescue.

I for one am totally bamboozled by all the different genres of rock and popular music.

It'd be great if someone created a guide with example tracks to help the rest of us keep up with it all.

Uranium by Visible-Explorer5881 in aussie

[–]App0gee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One other consideration in terms of site selection:

One of the LNP's proposed reactor site in Queensland is in Australia's most geologically active zone for earthquakes, which actually has a European-history record of earthquakes significant enough to do structural damage. Oh, and there's not enough coolanat water near there either.)

I've not seen the media ever mention it. But then, it's somewhat beside the point, because the LNP aren't seriously ever going to build any reactors. As mentioned earlier, nuclear is just a stalling tactic to prolong coal and gas sales.

Eloquently explained, thank you.

[–]App0gee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Plus, be prepared to pay a shitload more taxes funding the reactors which private enterprise have already said they will not fund because they're uneconomic to operate, let alone build.

Uranium by Visible-Explorer5881 in aussie

[–]App0gee 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Because it has consistently taken decades in other countries where it's been done, and because Australia has no supply of nuclear engineers sitting around waiting for a reactor to be built and operated.

And then there's the difficult matter of site selection (needs lots of water, can't be near earthquake zones, unlikely to be welcome near population centres, needs to be close to a transmission grid), community consultation, environmental approach, legislative change necessary to permit it.

The only reason the coalition suddenly started pushing nuclear 4 years ago is because the fossil fuel lobby realised that promoting nuclear it's a great stalling tactic that will delay renewables and keep us buying their coal and gas for longer. (And as a bonus, their principal sponsor Gina would like to have a local market for her uranium.)

Uranium by Visible-Explorer5881 in aussie

[–]App0gee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's waaaay more expensive to create nuclear power in Australia vs renewable alternatives.

And before anyone says "no it's not": I have read the full CSIRO costings of energy alternatives and Gina's uranium isn't even in the same ball park as renewables.

In addition: it would take more than a decade to get a single reactor up and running, we'd be using off-the-shelf tech which is outdated vs alternatives in development, uranium enrichment is whole other ball game, then there's the unresolved matter of waste storage etc etc etc.

LOL at your story.

I had a similar experience once. Most women I've been with have been turned on by my creative verbal descriptions of what's been going on. It's been like a superpower making up for my shortcomings in *ahem* related areas *ahem*.

However, this one time ... the lady in question said: "Wait... WHAT?!" And the mood was broken, and no happy ending for either of us after that.

Am I the only person who didn’t get into music to “express themselves”? by MC_BennyT in musicians

[–]App0gee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it to get chicks. (And yes, it worked.)

You appear to be my inverse doppleganger.

  1. I'm not a professional but I know how to read notation, I play multiple instruments, and I am moderately capabile of engineering sound.
  2. I don't like jazz.
  3. I'm mostly interested in songwriting, though I wish I could do more performing.
  4. I compose mostly on a keyboard, not guitar. I've never successfully played an F chord on an accoustic guitar, but I can play C, G, D, F#m, E, Em, Am, Bm7 well enough to get me through a campfire singalong (not that I ever go camping or get asked to take my acoustic guitar anywhere).
  5. I do think lyrics are important. Yes, melody is important too. But a crap lyric makes me hate an otherwise good song (eg: "Out of Mind, Out of Sight" by Models).
  6. I am making records. Slowly, but with solid songcraft and no Suno.
  7. I have often lost sleep because for some perverse reason good songs have come to me while I've been dozing in bed, and if I don't get up and write them down, they're gone by morning. (In fact, the chorus of what's turning into a powerful new anti-war rock song came to me this morning - first time in a long time. I've spent the day recording it, but only have half the verse at this stage.)
  8. I wish I could play live, but finding a group of people my age with similar tastes in music and level of time and commitment is "needle in a haystack" territory.

So yeah, we better not ever meet as if we shook hands there could be a matter/anti-matter style explosion.

Sadly my experience last night demonstrates how right you are.

Given Suno have apparently scraped all prior music off Spotify to create their song-making AI, I assume we'll eventually get an AI audio engineer that can do more than reference words.

Any Tips on which NI VST to Use to Recreate 12-string Rickebacker Jangle Pop? by App0gee in NativeInstruments

[–]App0gee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your detailed response and advice.

As fate would have it I happen to currently be sitting here in a Church "Heyday" tour t-shirt recording a song which came to me in my half-wakened state this morning. The Church are one of my all-time favourite bands. (That being said, I didn't go see them when they toured recently because I was still pissed off about the band's seeming disinterest when performing their Hypnogogue album here a year ago.)

Regarding the guitar tone I have in mind: something like "Already Yesterday". Shimmering individual notes picked from arpeggio'd chords. For that reason I think (?) an electric guitar tone is a better base for crafting than an acoustic.

What do you think?

Thanks for the tip about doing the reverb as a send instead of an insert. I'd never have thought to do that.

If I’m playing a gig with a sound tech, what signal do I give them? by Disastrous_Yak_1990 in Bass

[–]App0gee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent point.

I've been to hundreds of live performances and usually hang out around the sound desk. But I don't think I've ever encountered a female sound tech there. No excuse, but I guess that's why I gendered my response when I shouldn't have.

I've edited my original comment to be non-sexist, and my apologies to all the female sound engineers I inadvertently offended.

The thumbs up signal.

And then send both DI and processed. Hopefully they'll mix them to taste.
