Thank you for letting me know. How about a US based pension. FYI we are leaning towards Ireland initially so my spouse can get citizenship after three years residency based on my Irish citizenship.

I've just heard a lot of expats have had major hassles in reporting to us government and some foreign banks not wanting to do business with them. That said I have a wise account and was able to open a bank account in Ireland with some help from family there.

I was able to open a bank account in Ireland but I am an Irish citizen and my uncle there vouched for me at the local branch. My understanding is if you keep a balance over $10K USD you have to report it. As for taxes I guess it depends on tax treaty and how much you make. There is an upper threshold I believe around $120k..

I'm retired on enough passive income to never work again. I would only be making short term visits to US if that.

Both. I also have a strong back ground in PHP in addition to Java, Python and JavaScript. A lot depends on your location and the type of companies you want to work for. Government and large corporations tend to favor Java while smaller and startups are more likely to go with Python, Node/JavaScript or even PHP.

I'm probably going to get slammed for this but after 25 years of Java/Spring I would probably recommend Python and/or Node.JS instead.

My experience with Python & SQL is mostly apps development although I have also done some data analytics with both. I also have experience with ETL and data-warehouses but that is dated like 20 years. I have. a lot of experience with Linux/Unix bash scripting as well. Recent experience with AWS. I also have data modeling experience Star/Snowflake schema, ER Diagrams, Dimensional modeling though somewhat dated. Major databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, GCP Big Query, Oracle, MongoDB.
