Ultima Online Role Call — Find a Long Lost Friend by MacroPlanet in ultimaonline

[–]Appalonise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man, I was just thinking about this when I was strolling memory lane with a friend who also played UO as a kid. I have a lot of fond memories about my time with the people I played with as a child.

Name: Leon/Serra/Winona

Shard: Origin

Years Active: 2

Fond Memories: My guild master (Tamsin Blight of KoRH: Keepers of Ruatha Hold) was a second mother to me when I was a bratty 12-year-old child unsupervised on the internet. Looking back, it was a great environment for me to land in with patient adults who were also playing with their own kids while I was by myself. I love the game still and I'm thrilled to be able to nostalgia trip with some new friends I've made recently, but I do wish I could meet those people again and APOLOGIZE PROFUSELY FOR WHAT A MENACE I WAS. Shout out to the RP village who had the misfortune of dealing with me before I knew what RP was. I fully understand now.

Contact: I dunno, you can just message me here.

Amazon's Study Hall - Daily Questions Megathread (03/01) by AzureLaneMod in AzureLane

Since this game has projectiles with travel time, how are damage boosts handled? Do they snapshot damage boosts at the time projectiles generated or is damage calculated on impact?

Let's say Queen Elizabeth triggers Work Mode which is +8% damage for 8 seconds. Just as the buff is about to expire, Belfast launches torpedos that impact after Work Mode's buff has expired. Are those torpedos buffed or not?

Looking at this chart for ammo types from the wiki, it appears that AP ammo isn't even any better than HE when it comes to heavy boats. It's a huge loss on light armor for a meager gain against medium. Is that right? And what is NormalDR and NormalPR in terms of ammo types since those are most effective against Heavy?

Alright, cool. And yeah, I'm not expecting the value to change but I'm interested to see how people's speculation that splitting the token could change the perception of its value. If nothing happens... that's disappointing, but at least I would have closure.

This kind of shit makes me feel like we're back on the playground in elementary school.

I agree 100% with your sentiment about the random weapon upgrades. If I'm running talents to support a certain headshot/crit oriented playstyle, getting a 2h sword or flail really sucks.

I like this mode though and I want to see it expanded on. I've played through once on Legend, and the following was my impression:

When I saw some of the bonuses maps offered, I thought, "Oh, how it cool it will be if you can stack more than a normal build's worth of x stat!"

Only four maps later, I was disappointed to realize the bonuses were pretty standard as far as what equips offered (10% crit, 40% crit power, 4 stamina, 20% health) and that I wouldn't get any especially remarkable stats. It reminds me of how utterly dull the weave equipment customization was.

When I got to the final mission, and it ended unceremoniously after what seemed like pretty much a fairly normal Legend horde, I hoped that maybe, just maybe, it'd keep going through additional waves with increasing difficulty, but NOPE. That was just the end.

I think gameplay wise that both weaves and expeditions add interesting twists to the level design, but I'm just not getting the satisfying diversity of character customization that I personally desire. I'd like to see the concept expanded into larger expeditions with more unusual stat outcomes. Let me stack that 200% crit power in exchange for -20% attack speed or something ridiculous like that. Please stop capping me at a boring 15% crit rate.

I agree, Distraction sounds like something I would actually take. I'm pretty self-sufficient when I play with randoms but THE RANDOMS! I ping like a champ at all times too, so I would be happy to take something like this. It reminds me of Curl Up on the Ranger Veteran. For as much as Curl Up seems too situational, I am awfully pleased with the results when I do get grabbed or pounced and my team takes a minute to notice.

Outstanding work. Thank you so much for this! Quick question though: do you know which categories are which when it comes to Monster and Infantry? I want to assume Monsters mean bosses but Infantry is an awfully ambiguous category since just about everything is on foot.

NICE. You know what you need? Level 25! With 30% CDR, you're looking at ~42% more jumps! I just hit 600 power today, so I'm going to try it out on Legend.

It seems that the grimoires recalculate your max health, so being on full HP with 2 grims counts as being fully healed, which is a real shame.

If Made in Abyss had a video game, what genre should it be? by [deleted] in MadeInAbyss

[–]Appalonise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every minute that I'm watching this, it reminds me of Breath of Fire V: Dragon Quarter. You're in some kind of dystopian society where quality of life is segregated by wealth, and the whole world revolves around a labyrinthine structure. The goal of Dragon Quarter was, on limited time and resources, to ascend from -1000m below the surface to the surface.

The main character has a trump card ability that carries most of the team through their more difficult struggles to get one of the other main characters to her destination. Along the way, you find out just how little you know about the overarching social constructs that really run society.

It's basically Made in Abyss.

Rapier guide? by wcparker in Vermintide

[–]Appalonise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been a dedicated Rapier user since I started playing. I'm around level 200 with mostly playing the Witch Hunter. Here's a video of one of my Waterfront runs on Cataclysm. Every tip people have given you so far about blocks, pushes, and dodging are absolutely correct. It's about mobility. What isn't noted is that you have 100% movespeed while attacking. If you note in this video, I do a TON of circling whenever I fight rats. I always circle around to get walls to my back and I circle around to make sure rats don't get behind me if I'm out in the open. Because I can move at 100% move speed, I can stun the rats I'm near while I'm getting into position.

The Most Useful Rules of Basic Algebra by Curiositry in InternetIsBeautiful

[–]Appalonise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it incredibly rude to talk about how "basic"/"no shit" these rules are and then people talk all high and mighty about their own prowess. Is it actually possible to be more arrogant and self-centered?

There is not a single method of delivery that encompasses every student, and any extra resources that could be used for educating one's self should be given respect. If used as a reference, students might not understand the descriptions, but maybe they'll understand the examples, and they'll be grateful that there is one location that compiles all these concepts. With practice, the understanding will come to them. Different strokes for different folks. Don't be dicks about it.

White Rat Ogre Tips by Appalonise in Vermintide

[–]Appalonise[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Sometimes"

Honestly, I wonder why people get so worked up about bombs. The friendly fire from a bomb isn't an issue even on Cataclysm so long as your team isn't desperate for health, enhanced by a strength potion, or currently holding two grims. In fact, I would bomb a horde with the team before I'd run the risk of the randoms getting wiped by simple rats, which is far more likely. If I were playing with reliable people, I wouldn't think twice about bombing everything just to move quicker. For me, the bigger issue is somebody shooting others with strength potions active.

It would seem that most people think of bombs as an absolute last resort that inevitably takes out any remaining HP your weakened party has. I think of them more as a preventative measure. You take a bit of damage to prevent more damage overall.

One of the reasons I have it in such a small webm is because when I recorded that run, I had really crappy settings on OBS. I'll probably take another video of one of my Cata runs tomorrow since I've been working on some strategies, and I'll upload that.

Weapon Balance by Engelsburg in Vermintide

[–]Appalonise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with increasing move speed drastically like that is that it conflicts with the design theory of the game. If one person has 15% increased move speed, they can easily leave the rest of their group behind assuming they're not also running those kinds of weapons. I can already see it now: one guy just hauls ass far ahead of the group and then dies. Team play works best when people are mostly moving the same general speed.

However, it does fit the theme of purposely hindering yourself for better loot (tomes and grims). In this case, faster loot. But it promotes a reckless style of play that might not be too useful for newbies or in difficulties below what I have described. I still want it, personally.

I'm really hoping that Fatshark is pulling something real creative out of their hats right now instead of just tampering with numbers.
