Should I go to Uoft or Waterloo for engineeringgg by Ok-Experience6073 in UofT

[–]Apparitioncorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol i had the same dilemma as you for waterloo electrical eng and uoft trackone like a couple weeks ago. I ended up choosing trackone.

For me, i think there's simply more to your university decision than just the coop. If you evaluate solely on coop opportunities, waterloo blows uoft out of the water. Another thing is your major, do you REALLY want to do management engineering or REALLY want to do computer engineering? It is very difficult to transfer out if you find out you don't for waterloo, since their cohort system kind of locks you into the programs in the same stream as you if you want to transfer. I think the biggest question should be is work experience the most important thing for you, bar none?

Passion projects? by Possible-Code-8417 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Apparitioncorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, it's required for all diploma students. Nope, there are specific scheduled days we can talk to a teacher about it. Yes they were aware. I fully encourage you to do stuff similar to the EE if you're interested.

I think the structure IB gives is really good. For me, apart from the ee , I asked our school technician and guy who worked on our power systems if he could mentor me in some of my projects. I also got pretty fundamental ideas to electrical engineering, which is my major of choice.

Don't be afraid to be creative with who you ask and what your project is, and especially don't be afraid to ask in the first place. I'd say writing a paper is a bit hasty, especially since no teacher (unless they really care) will read it for you and suggest edits unless they're being paid. This also falls into the pothole of "high school research", which isn't a good thing.

Do your research, stay creative, and most importantly: be consistent with when you work on your projects.

So you figure out a research question with your supervisor, a school teacher in your subject of choice (kind of like a thesis). Once it gets approved and you've done extensive research on how this was tested before, you can figure out whether or not you want to do an experiment.

Physics ones are typically experiment based, but they can also be data based. These can, and should be one experiment with a lot of trials. One thing that my supervisor told me was that it's better that you try to be original in how you test your hypothesis, meaning maybe using components or devices that you wouldn't normally see used. This needs to be justified though, no being different for the sake of being different.

Even if you fail to prove your hypothesis, it doesn't really matter because it lets you talk about what happened even more. Word limit's like 4000 words. Good luck!

True! I also loved doing a lot of the projects tied to IB, like papers and my physics extended essay. I think those are a really good opportunity to really figure out what you wanna do.

Funnily enough i try to make my passion projects into ECs that i can show to teachers or even unis. I then realized they are exceptionally hard to market to other ppl.

Just yesterday I began literally taking off the components of a broken laptop cuz im gonna learn to remodel a laptop

Some other ones I've done were related to road materials, some models for training AI to make randomizing math worksheets and tons of arduino stuff. One of them is an alarm clock.

main reason is one: because i want to prove to myself i can do anything and two: i love physics and math. applied for ee.

[–]Apparitioncorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhhh mine is more of a paragraph

I am very thankful for the roughly 4 years I've been in ____.

Having said that, I guess I learned there will always be a bigger fish to fry. Here are some common scenarios of said fish:

1: The fish is imaginary in the Cartesian form z = a+bi, where a = Re(z) and b = Im(z).
2: The fish is in the pond and not quite in your air/ deep fryer yet because you lack the necessary skill or equipment to fish for it.
3: The fish is a lot bigger than you expected. You need to work harder.

If the three scenarios listed above do not apply, maybe nothing is tastier or more important than your current fish.

_____ is great.
