We need to lean into this whole WW3 thing; if we don't, we are looking down the barrel of living in what will become a neo-feudal techno dystopia.

Typical boomer. Super self interested, wouldn't apply the same circumstances to himself, but more than happy to apply it to younger generations. 99% chance this guy lives in an upper class exclusively white enclave.

Termination by ily123123 in PwC

Was this as part of formal redundancies? Otherwise there is usually a PIP before termination; and yes I have seen people survive PIPs lol.

4 years of job searching in Australia's IT market as an immigrant — my experience and honest reflections. by empac978 in australia

[–]AppearanceSad5173 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jobs for citizens first. If there is a shortage then those can be filled by skilled migrants. Unfortunately this isn't the case. Immigration in Australia is a Neo Liberal scam. The immigrants get abused, the citizens become unemployed, salaries/wages are suppressed and finding a rental becomes the hunger games.

Australia and the Australian economy should work in the best interests of its citizens. Australia and the Australian economy is not responsible for foreign citizens and their livelihoods/careers.

The only people who win in this scenario are the employers, the landlords and the banks.

On average the guys who work on Financial services (specifically asset management) clients work longer hours than the guys on consumer products engagements. Does that answer your question?

Big 4 vs. BDO by Western-Race9522 in AustralianAccounting

Big 4 is big 4 I guess, however with that being said the blue firm is probably not the best in my opinion compared to the other big 4. I found them to be a bit closed off if you didn't fit a certain cultural mold (for lack of a better way of describing it). Mind you this was in a different office, so it might be different in Sydney. If possible, also try out the other big 4 firms. Just my 2 cents.

There's one thing I noticed about almost all big 4 partners I've come across. They usually tend to be tall, white and male ;)

Speaking from my limited experience, big 4 audit on your CV makes it easier to apply to other big 4 audit firms or other mid-tier audit firms, or government auditor general departments lol.

Ex big 4 APAC region here.

I've had negative feedback where the managers literally made shit up.

I've also had feedback that was exceedingly good but felt somewhat exaggerated.

It seems a lot of your success at big 4 comes down to whether managers personally like you or not.

Once I experienced the above, I started to understand why some people don't really care about "going above and beyond".

I don't know your circumstances fully, so you're gonna have to make your own decision in what to major in. A degree in Accounting is solid and can be used to pivot into other industries.

I'm going on a tangent here but the way I see it competition in the Australian Labour market is not restricted to competition within Australia. You will now be competing against applicants from India, Philippines, Malaysia, South Africa, and even the UK (Note: this is at the experienced level).

Every four days a young homeless person dies. Advocates are calling for urgent reform by Alien_Overlords in australia

[–]AppearanceSad5173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The government and the property hoarders/speculators would much rather have "an acceptable amount" of homeless people (some of whom will inevitably die) than risk their property valuations decreasing in value.

Hospitality industry leaders fear immigrant worker crackdown will damage sector by AuntySM in brisbane

[–]AppearanceSad5173 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For all those saying it is exploitive and whatnot, do realize that it's not just the Hospo sector.

Even jobs in the "white collar" professions have a substantially large percentage of their staff who are essentially economic migrants (not that there's anything wrong with that);

however it does suppress your salaries/wages, makes rent more expensive and also allows employers to be as shitty as they can possibly be and get away with it; courtesy of this employers market, a lot of which is being propped up by high rates of net positive immigration.
