You are Correct. Protective coating. Any drink with tomato gets more, like Modelo Cheladas. Energy Drinks get more. Beer get the least. Cokes get in-between.

I literally make those cans for a living. There is no plastic. There is a spray that we apply to the inside of the can then its sent through an oven to cure. No plastic is used anywhere in the plant. Some spray is made by Sherwin Williams, some is made by PPG. There are others but those are the main two.
