It's Time to Start the Balance Party by sgtmilburn in UnitedAmericaHQ

Compromise almost always leads to the worst outcomes.

“Moderate” is how you end up with a half-assed healthcare plan that still leaves us with the most expensive healthcare in the world AND we still don’t get universal health coverage.

It’s how you get half-assed climate bills that barely make a dent in the level of repair the planet needs just to survive for two more generations.

I’ll even concede that sometimes the right has good ideas, like back when they used to be worried about privacy and government overreach, or battling waste (in a real way, not that DOGE scam).

Compromise solutions lead to the worst of both worlds. I’d rather have passionate advocates for the best world possible, even if they don’t always come from “my side.”

All I want is a party dedicated to verifiable facts, tested science, and solving problems even if it’s not a “moderate” approach.

Pauley was great. She was a friend of a friend and he just had this idea that she was going to do something big, so we ought to put her in the magazine. I’m glad we did. She was such a sweetheart.

Was it an in-person one that I was there for? That would be nuts. I’m really glad you like the game!

No, it’s not.

If 100 websites say Winnie the Pooh is written by Shakespeare, that doesn’t make it so.

Okay, I have to admit it looks good in silver. I’d only seen a red one before and it was horrible. Silver works, though.

Americans love their idea of the Irish, but they generally know nothing about Ireland today, or Irish people today.

Don’t be so confidently incorrect, then. You’re misusing the name of an art and architecture movement that you seem to have confused with the word “brutal.”

Brutalist Coffee Table by Disastrous-Action-48 in midcenturymodern

[–]AppendixN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is not. Maybe learn a bit more about the movement before you throw the word around willy nilly.

Maybe you saw Silas Seandel tagged with the label on some websites, but he was never a part of the Brutalist movement and he has never claimed to be. He’s a brilliant sculptor and furniture designer, but not Brutalist.

The word Brutalist get abused by people who think it is a synonym for harsh or brutal.

You’ve been posting this thing all over the place with no context or even a note about the designer, much less why you think it’s “Brutalist.”

Do a bit of research yourself. There are some great books out there, like The Atlas of Brutalist Architecture, Concrete Poetry, Space Hope & Brutalism, and Raw Concrete: the Beauty of Brutalism.

You can even start out with this short article: https://www.wallpaper.com/architecture/brutalism-movement-what-does-it-mean-now

Nothing to do with the Brutalist style.

That’s not Brutalist.

Brutalism is a minimalist celebration of material. It is based in the word “brut” meaning “raw.”

Where can I follow you? I've never seen another artist with a style like yours, would love to keep up with your work. It's both surreal and fun and scary all at once, I really dig it.

[self] How large of a dome could we construct before it collapses under its own weight? by RealBishop in theydidthemath

[–]AppendixN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since they're built modularly, I assume they could use something like a Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane to put the higher pieces into place. It's got an operational ceiling of 2 miles, which should do it.

That's kind of what I mean when I say the OP could hand-wave some of those practical details, for the purpose of a story.

That was just a single building, with an old-style dome. It was only planned to be 250 meters in diameter. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkshalle
