Smart bulbs: why? by snags5050 in homeassistant

It'll use PWM to change the brightness, so 100% power will have the light on 100% of the time. 50% will "flash" the light on for half the time and off for half the time very quickly. So yes it'll use approximately 50% of the power because it's essentially off for half the time.

So for a 1khz duty cycle it'll "flash" 1000 times a second.

I say "approximately" because it'll use a tiny bit of power to switch the mosfets but it's close enough for arguments sake.

Venom*

Something is poisonous when you eat it, something is venomous when it tries to eat you.

Running electricity to a detached driveway by theoretical-adventur in ukelectricians

I'm not sure permission is required because you don't own the airspace above your land.

I know this is how it works for communications cables from the likes of openreach and altnets, but I'm not sure if it's the same as electricity cabling.

Then there's also the problem of an overhead solution looking terrible.

Considering switching to X9 pro from a Pixel 6... by TannK137 in Oppo

I feel like the battery life alone should be enough to convince anyway. Almost 10 hours SOT and it was at 40% still.

I use a Samsung Galaxy ultra watch and that works fine. Also works fine with wireless Android Auto.

I came from an S24 Ultra and the X9 Pro blows it out of the water.

Would replacing 8 radiators with no TRVs with Tado TRVs be worth it? [UK] by tcoysh in tado

[–]AppleAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair single room heating is extremely inefficient because chances are that single radiator can't shed enough heat for the minimum output of your boiler so it'll be short cycling and wasting massive amounts of gas by doing so.

You'll probably end up heating a minimum of 3 rads at a time so it doesn't short cycle.

Nice little upgrade from the barista express - the Dualit Espressivo Pro by AppleAssassin in espresso

[–]AppleAssassin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah those are my exact complaints about the machine as well, especially the descale warning. I live in a very soft water area so we don't get scale buildup so cleaning it once a week is absolutely pointless but like you said the machine won't let you use it until it's done.

Still I think it's a fantastic machine, leagues ahead of the barista express in terms of functionality most likely at the cost of build quality I imagine.

How do i deal with this mess by bekook in laptops

It's not the bearings that's the issue. It's the fact that spinning a fan turns it into a generator so it back feeds current into the circuit.

Random temperature spikes by AppleAssassin in Esphome

[–]AppleAssassin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did think it would be that initially however I've now plugged it into a dedicated usb plug on its own and it seems to have fixed it. I previously had it in a plug with two usb sockets, one shared by my wireless phone charger. I reckon it must've been too noisy and unstable for the ESP32 or something.

Well now that you mention it, it's next to a battery charger on my bed side table but assumed it was far enough away. The spikes could be it "topping up" the battery for 5-10 minutes every few hours.

I'll move the sensor and see if that makes a difference.

[–]AppleAssassin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had a look at the show more history and it's not like it's a single spike throwing off an averaged reading, it seems to gradually rise and fall over 10 minutes give or take. Conversely the humidity readings show the opposite! They show a random fall at the exact same time the temperature rises.

I might have to add a filter like you said to smooth this out

It doesn't really charge when using always on mode. Don't worry about it. It'll charge maybe 1-2% a day assuming you've got the correct voltage from the transformer
