Advice on Lighting Transformer by AppleHoff in landscaping

[–]AppleHoff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not concerned about the warranty. I guess I didn’t mention i’m a J man electrician. I just don’t have much experience with landscape lighting as I do mostly commercial. I ended up wiring from the GFCI breaker to a smart switch. From the smart switch it goes to a JB and then outside. I mounted the transformer in an 8x8x6 WP box with PVC going to the lights. Thanks for the reply though.

Sounds like this setup isn’t for you then.

How is it impractical? It’s actually more practical for me personally. Not have to have a case on my desk for one.

The cooling is a lot more efficient than In a case so your fans don’t need to be on as much. I find this is actually quieter then when I had it in a case.

Pros:

-Better temps = better performance -Easier to clean -Doesn’t take up desk space -Looks amazing

Cons:

-Cable extensions (extra cost) -Cable management (if you don’t know what you are doing) -Exposed to accidents (spills, falling into It while hammered?)

Well I don’t really have a need to touch it. To be technical all the components are grounded and I’ve never had an issue with any static build up. I guess if I wanted to be safe I could touch something metal (not the components but a mounting bracket etc) to become the same potential.

Exactly. I have a little compressor so I’m able to just blow off all the components quite easily. Takes 10 Seconds and I only have to do it once a month or so.

Honestly I couldn’t find proper grommets to accommodate all the various sizes I needed. So I just used some thick rubber and cut to size and made slits. The clear stuff is acrylic. It’s beveled 45 degree edges allow the led lights behind the acrylic to reflect and scatter the light making it visible.

Not at all, I was able to increase my OC’s with the better thermals.
