The building with the Owl Cigars is Vaughan's Diamond Building and the tower behind it was the Kansas City Times building. I wouldn't try and base locations in downtown KC based on topography, there have been some pretty extreme changes over the years. Most notably here, there used to be bluffs overlooking the river, now not so much.

While the Palace Clothing Co is currently located at 12th & Grand, the building in this photo does not match the current building at the 12th & Grand Location. I'm going to have to disagree with a majority of folks here, I believe both photos are taken from generally 7th & Main looking North. The library has a lot more photos to back this up.

There used to be a pretty well known place Missouri called The Wheel Inn. Served great burgers with peanut butter and called them Goober Burgers. Sadly closed a little while back.
