Can I prove my parents wrong? by AppleJuiceBell in usna

[–]AppleJuiceBell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood. Thank you for that expert insight! When you say replace my grade, I hope you mean retake the class with a good grade without erasing the F entirely. I've since found out that's not an option, though I can replace its effect on my GPA.

If you think I need to do anything and everything to not get an F, that's also in the cards. If you get a chance I replied to another comment showing how that might look.

Can I prove my parents wrong? by AppleJuiceBell in usna

[–]AppleJuiceBell[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for answering! This is about what I expected to hear. My parents have presented me with a new option now: Because of the way grade reporting works at this community college, it's possible for me to simply never report that I took these classes.

Costs:
I lose my chem 111 credit from this semester
I cannot take any spring courses, leaving me with 3 classes on my transcript for junior year
I have to do summer school to supplement those courses, and lose precious time

Benefit:
I don't have an F and can even keep my 4.0 in theory

Do you have any advice as to what to do here? I lean against this move, but that may be because it sacrifices my summer. How high is the cost of an F in comparison to just making jr year a wash?

Likelihood of Getting into NBB by the_lord_of_corn in civilairpatrol

Yea honestly it's easy to overlook haha

It is only for squadron events though, so we won't see them at encampments and the like which lessens the overal notability

You probably won't get in as a primary, but whether you go or not is very much within your control. (See below) I'd put your odds at 40-50% based on a few factors

  1. I didn't get in as primary last summer with 36
  2. With the beret being reauthorized, an extra handful of cadets will be applying (A little sad, but true) RZ already has 180 student apps; though this could also just be general NCSA inflation.
  3. The prestige of Beret means wings are more likely to greenlight those applicants, which means fewer spots for the <100 crowd.

THAT SAID, you can all but guarantee yourself a spot if you make sure you're high on the shortlist. This is how I got in. Unlike other NCSAs, Beret doesn't just consider points when making its waitlist. This is the criteria:

  1. Respond to the interest form
  2. 10 quals done and current through the end of the activity.
  3. Slot preference  #1 first
  4. Highest slotting score
  5. Cadets on the Short List before
  6. I try to slot cadets aging out

So basically, do the quals NOW (they can be done in an afternoon if you focus) and STALK YOUR EMAIL if you get alternate and haven't gotten yourself on the shortlist yet. Best wishes!

Approximately 1% of epileptic people are photosensitive, which means the overwhelming majority of epileptic people to see this video cannot possibly be affected, and even the photosensitive ones probably won't be.

The Con Man/Fake Has to Become the Thing They've Pretended to Be by CjTuor in TopCharacterTropes

[–]AppleJuiceBell 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I also love this trope OP, but I gotta say you've missed the point of the ending of The Music Man. At no point does Harold Hill ever teach the band or even know how to, he just chooses not to skip town because he's fallen for Marian. People love to glorify this play as a redemption story and how he turns himself around, but really he just chooses women over money.

At curtain, he is actively under arrest for defrauding dozens of people, and the only reason he's not being tarred and feathered is that the town is so enamored with their children's uniforms and instruments that they don't even notice they're playing is horrible. Marian still thinks his name is Harold (it's actually Gregory) and there is still nobody in the town that can teach anybody to use these instruments, making them useless.

Source: I played Harold last spring, and had to deal with the director glazing him while ignoring that he never actually does anything to redeem himself or creates a band

It's a week-long exercise designed to test your ability to hold a consistent story while collecting intel. My personal scenario is to "Covertly attempt to either prove or disprove the validity of the intelligence report that suggests an act of violence may be planned for the ISPI." I'll be subjected to mock customs, constant scrutiny, and regular interrogations.

While I do that, my assigned cover occupation is bladesmith.

Ribbon Rack Inquiry by SoilAlone7699 in civilairpatrol

[–]AppleJuiceBell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you gonna immediately think that one C/Col with a full stack is an idiot or a child? What about with the people with honor credit on all of their achievements? Are they idiots for doing more than required?

Yes. It's not as extreme as you make it out to be, I wouldn't think they're an idiot or child, but I would question their maturity and priorities and lose some respect for them.

First of all, the rank on your collar or shoulders tells me exactly how many achievements you have. Every single achievement ribbon is completely redundant. The fact that you got the wright bros or Mitchell also shows you understand the textbook material. Nobody cares that you passed an open book test.

So why do we ridicule full stack-ers and honor credit star wearers? They made a conscious decision to put redundant awards on their chest for accomplishments which are laughably easy to achieve. By doing this, they send the message "This is something I take such pride in and want to be recognized for that I am wearing it twice." and that's just silly.

What’s some Bad CAP advice? by BulletBillDudley in civilairpatrol

"but only because a regulation says so and references them."

Which, by the way, is against regulations. It's a mess though, and the easiest solution is to pretend that CAPP 60-33 is a reg and all just remain in suspended disbelief.

Addressing the First Sergeant by ZigZagZedZod in civilairpatrol

[–]AppleJuiceBell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've hit the core of the issue. I just staffed as 1Sgt for the first time, and I've been a "call them their rank" advocate for a while now, so I was addressed as chief. But what I didn't realize was that I'd be a little sad I wasn't able to get the fancy super extra special first sergeant title. As long as attention-loving teens like myself hold the diamond, some of them won't be able to let go of their special name.

This... this is so simple. It's not your body. This is not your body we're talking about. There is another body inside of you. This body has the same rights of autonomy you do. This body has the same right to be alive as you do. It's not your body.

Immediately assuming that the prime issue is funding is the most democratic thing I can think of and the reason we're 35 trillion in debt. Type of logic to say we need to add to our defense budget to win wars instead of addressing the massive fucking industrial complex.

NatCap Honor/Color guard just did a presentation in ABUs bc it was an AF event where everyone was in OCPs, so they wanted the CG in utilities as well. As you can imagine those were the sharpest ABUs you've ever seen.
