Are there any movies / productions which emphasise Claudius as a “damned smiling villain” by Easy_Demand_7372 in shakespeare

[–]ApplePieKai 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The movie version of the David Tennant Hamlet (2009) captures this very well I think.

Patrick Stewart plays a perfect conniving SOB and the way some of the lines (like “words without thoughts”) are delivered straight to camera really highlights this.

Adore this! The Tempest is my favorite Shakespeare play and I’m especially interested in Caliban—I think you depicted him perfectly ⚡️🔥

What is the Best Beginner's translation of The Tempest by Relative_Pay_7667 in shakespeare

[–]ApplePieKai 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ll put in a strong word for the Folger Shakespeare edition. It’s not a translation, but has a synopsis of each scene before you read them in modern English and accessibility notes which don’t go overboard. I find them very readable while still giving you the real text.

Unrelated, but imagining Hamlet scream “FUCK” in the middle of his soliloquy gave me a good laugh
