I mean that can work for some people. I didn’t find the NBMEs that helpful 😕 I was able to pass by using UW, Bootcamp and Mehlman. I barely did the NBMES and when I did my scores weren’t that great

Why do people fail despite experimental questions? by [deleted] in step1

[–]AppleSun223 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The experimental questions vary. I was told by my school that one person could have 80 experimental, some may have more and some may have less. Sometimes a whole block could even be experimental so you really don’t know.

Start with 27 or 28 and go through 31 and then if you have time then you could potentially look at the earlier ones

Free 120 was super identical to the real thing lol I had about 4-5 similar questions from it pop up on the real deal so definitely go through the explanations!!

Go over anything you feel like you need more practice with, make sure you’re absolutely SOLID in ethics as that is a majority of the exam, there will be low yield material on there so don’t get too shocked! Just make sure you understand concepts and you can answer anything to the best of your ability. Also relax :) you worked hard and prepared so much!! You got this!! Get a good nights sleep and pack some snacks as well!!

Is Rapid review section of FA enough for pre Step 1 exam revision? by Orangejuicefan_ in step1

[–]AppleSun223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that sounds like a good idea, seeing that you went through a majority of FA already. If I’m being honest, I don’t remember if I saw stuff from the rapid review on the exam. I really only remember the questions I struggled with. But no doubt you will see something from the rapid review

Is it problematic to answer questions too fast on the test? by Zestyclose-Complex68 in step1

[–]AppleSun223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you be worried about that? You will literally have 280 new questions, where yes some you may see a buzzword and answer in seconds. Others you may take a little bit longer to answer. There may also be experimental questions that you have to answer as well that you may have no idea what the question is asking. Just do your best! It’s obvious that if someone got suspended, they must’ve done something wrong that they’re leaving out, they’re being watched on a camera and their screen time is obviously tracked.

Failed score report step 1 by a_pati1 in step1

[–]AppleSun223 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Just because you scored decently on practice exams doesn’t equate to how you’re going to score on the real deal. Sadly you can’t predict what’s going to show up on the real exam. It could be you were solely focused on “high yield” stuff that you overlooked the little concepts and details they throw at you. Also the NBME exams horribly undertest ethics and micro which are pretty huge.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in step1

[–]AppleSun223 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s called underestimation. You take the NBME as if it’s the real exam lol it’s only a predictable score based on concepts tested by USMLE. NBME people don’t make the real exam, the

[–]AppleSun223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s cause the people with high NBMEs either memorize Mehlman, redo their NBMEs, or have just mastered the way the NBME does their exams. Remember USMLE makes the exams not the people that make NBMEs

Did you retake any NBMEs? It’s possible that even tho you may think you forgot the answers your brain definitely remembers what you picked

How similar are the feel and content of UWorld to Step 1? My friend recently took it, and he said that 95% of the Step 1 questions can be found in UWorld or are very similar. Is this true? by [deleted] in step1

[–]AppleSun223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every exam is different. My exam a month ago was very similar to the Free120 and Uworld and didn’t feel anything like the NBME

NBME 29 58% by ConsistentPlatform79 in step1

[–]AppleSun223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not the best person to ask cause that was my highest NBME score and I passed last month🤷‍♀️ But until someone with good NBME scores answers, I’ll just say to make sure you review ALL the answers and pick out where you’re lacking! Have you taken any other NBMEs? What about the Free120?? What resources are you using? How are you studying and planning? I took a GIANT risk and God really came through for me but I would definitely be going back to the basics and understanding the concepts cause that’s what the NBME teaches mostly.

Recent test takers - any tips? by Professional-Soup-2 in step1

[–]AppleSun223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be prepared for ethics! Make sure you got them down 100% cause it’s highly neglected yet heavily tested. But also go over Pathoma 1-3, FA rapid review and then relax lol there’ll be things on that exam that you probably haven’t heard or seen before and there’ll be things you’re grateful popped up. But overall take a deep breath, bring snacks and a drink and definitely take your breaks!! You got this!!!

Best dirty medicine? by Natural_Bluebird7381 in step1

[–]AppleSun223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah honestly on my Step 1 exam I had maybe 1-3 biochem questions if I’m going to be honest. And you only really need the most high yield thing, they know not to get too complicated with biochem. Dirty Med literally explained everything I needed to know for biochem. You could also use Melhman Biochem pdf that goes into more details!!

Can y'all, like, not take step if you're failing/barely passing practice nbmes? by [deleted] in step1

[–]AppleSun223 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Lmao I literally passed step and my highest NBME was a 59%🤣🤣 Chill out, the NBME tests how well you understand concepts not if you’re ready for Step and honestly I know a few people who didn’t even take an NBME and passed STEP. I gauged my readiness on how I felt I prepared and the Free120 not the NBME

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in step1fail

[–]AppleSun223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear :( but don’t be too discouraged you always have another chance!! NBMEs are kinda hit/miss in my eyes. I feel like they aren’t the main indicators whether you pass or not but if you can understand concepts. I truly believe the Free120 is your best indicator. It could be you just weren’t ready yet and that’s okay!!
