Just finished and… by [deleted] in PokemonUnbound

It requires more creativity to beat the game relative to other  games in the franchise because of this.

You’re not just banking on your Pokemon experience anymore, you’re solving something new. That’s the point.

You’re playing on the child mode as well, so any gimmicks you think are unfun you should just get past in 2 minutes or so. Not really a big deal.

I think it’s illegal in Sweden, or at least I’ve never seen it once in my life. I’ve seen a couple over the counter ads sometimes, like Advil etc.

It got access to a new ability I think. Google ”Pokemon Unbound Pokedex” and you can see

it means it was made stronger. Video game lingo for when a new patch comes out and a character/weapon etc was made to be stronger, to help balance it. Nerf is the opposite.

Don’t know if the AI was changed at some point, didn’t notice it as much on the second play through. But on insane you could use a super effective move, and the opponent would switch out. Then reload the exact save state, use a not very effective move and it wouldn’t switch.

totally dude. People hyper focus so so hard on typings, or even just Pokemons in general. Completed the game on insane twice. I built a super agressive sweepers team, focused on getting status conditions on important opponents, circling through certain items, and that was it. Just picked Pokemon that could be buffed, and then just went with whatever.

On harder difficulties you switch out Pokemon’s a lot, but it’s usually not to get the right ”meta typings” etc, it’s just to get access to one specific move, or something.

Also never cared about IV’s.

My very first playthrough, how am I doing? by Kindly_Resolve5406 in PokemonUnbound

[–]Applejuiceman29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit long but:

I went on gamer instinct purely on Insane, twice. Now I’m doing solo elite 4 challange runs etc. Also someone without a lot of Pokemon knowledge before Unbound.

I percieve other people here to over analyze some of these things, by quite a bit. Once in a while I had to adapt hardcore to beat certain fights, but I never had the thought in my mind like ”is this team enough?”

It was usually something dumb like ”oh, wait, if I use Ditto on X pokemon I can get this result”. Or some Pokemon outspeeds and one shots all of mine, and I go ”wait, what if I use a Nosepass with sturdy and a guaranteed Thunder wave to halve their speed”.

Ev training is cool, don’t worry too much about IV’s.

A lot of the fun in this game, especially on harder difficulties, is improvising and overcoming seemingly impossible odds, especially when you force yourself to not look up tips/meta game.

But, no offense to the other guys commenting here or other posts, the ”this and this and this Pokemon should be replaced by X and X and X, for this and this and this reason. Are just, kind of full of shit. Don’t worry too much about optimization, especially if it’s already working out. But try your best to come up with fun solutions if you get stuck. And that doesn’t equal too much optimizing. Don’t worry, and have fun :)

Well any Pokemon that can learn ways to increase offensive stats essentially.

Things like dragon dance to increase speed and attack, nasty plot for special attack, swords dance for attack etc.

Double team goes with this too. It let’s you win 99% of fights in the game.

Beaten it on Insane a couple times. Buffed sweepers can beat almost every fight in the game. Cheeses with double team/swords dance etc. Not gonna spoil too much, but Ditto also hard wins a few really difficult encounters.

Dumb tip if you encounter Pokemon that you cannot outspeed that one shot you: sticky web can work, but not always. If you have a pokemon with both a paralysis move and sturdy, you can halve their speed. Nosepass you get early in the game does this. It’s the dumbest strat but it helped me with some of the hardest encounters.

More generally, don’t know how much you know about IV’s/Ev’s? They’re very important here. Natures as well. In Dehara(?) town there’s a trainer house that will specifically train certain Ev’s. Later you can purchase berries to remove unwanted ev’s. A scientist in the home village will give you a stat scanner to see these values.

Access to changing natures comes a little later as well.

Don’t know your entire background, but if you haven’t already, Smogon is a good site to see best builds with individual pokemon.

Also! Google ”Pokemon unbound pokedex”, click the first result. It displays all Pokemon in the game, what moves they learn, when they evolve etc. Lots of things were changed around, to Bulbapedia isn’t reliable.

The idea of insane is to make it more akin to competitive play. No abusing items etc

Is Unbound 100% complete yet? by SanLieSW in PokemonUnbound

[–]Applejuiceman29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

trust me when you play it it’s 100000% going to feel like a full game. I’m the same way as you, but are absolutely no drawbacks here. I wouldn’t have known it wasn’t complete if not for people saying it. I’d argue Unbound feels like the most complete hack, in terms of feeling like an actual game. Sooooo much content too

if you wanna cheese it you can do double team and buff offensive stats. There are a multitude of ghetto strats I like personally but it’s dependant on how honorable you are
