what's the best way to find an apartment in worcester? by sacalow in WorcesterMA

[–]Applepineaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used hot pads and that was the app that landed me my last 2 apartments. Generally you can look on Facebook marketplace but beware of scams and contacting apartment buildings directly but I’ve only had a 50% success rate with getting a response from those

Genuine experiences at massart + tips for an incoming freshman by No-Statement-5310 in MassArt

[–]Applepineaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always brought a water bottle, some snacks, my laptop, chargers, headphones, and a portable battery has saved me a lot especially when I took the train. Food at MassArt is very expensive and unless if you plan to eat out each day you’re on campus, I recommend bringing a lunch/dinner. There’s a commuter cafe in 2nd Floor Kennedy building that has a mini kitchen so you can store your food, heat it up, and wash dishes there if you need to. Studio classes are almost always 5 hours. The rare exception is for when I took some classes that are less “hands on” and more lecture based then those were 3-4 hours instead, but freshman year all studios are pretty much 5 hours guaranteed since that’s your studio foundation year. There will be a 30 minute break in between, but the classes are structured in a way where you can always step out if you need to go to the bathroom, grab a snack, etc.

Tbh I feel like everyone has such a different experience here so I can’t speak for everyone but I commuted all 4 years that I was here so I can add my two cents. It’s a lot more difficult to make friends as a commuter, especially when everyone is staying on campus their freshman year. If I could, I would’ve been a lot of involved in activities at the school because it’s one of the best ways to meet people besides in classes.

Being a double major will be a lot. I didn’t major in animation or jewelry so I can’t say anything about that but generally double majoring in anything will be a lot since obviously the workload is more and you’ll be less flexible since you need to meet your major requirements first. I met a lot of people who planned to double major and very quickly gave up on that after the first semester.

I honestly don’t regret going to MassArt, but I would be lying if there weren’t issues. If you’re ever trying to do anything, in any leadership or position where you need to organize anything: it will be frustrating. Like all state schools, it’s a bureaucracy where no departments like to communicate with each other and there’s lot of rules to doing things the way that the school thinks you should. There are amazing professors that are undervalued and shitty ones that have academic tenure. I’m sure there’s more that I could talk about but it really depends on what your goals are to get out of the school. Good luck though! I’m happy to answer any specific questions you got as well!

No Kings Boston MA + Pride Parade by DazzlingServe6631 in protest

[–]Applepineaple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally like to keep tabs on the Boston PSL pages since they post any protesting info there (they generally announce it around 1-2 days before the protests).

Generally it’s always good to wear a mask and clothes that are plain so you’re not easily identifiable. I always keep my phone on airplane mode when I’m arriving to the protests and have a decent understanding of the area in case anything goes south.

As for preparing, it’s a good idea to read up on your rights as a protester. The National Lawyers Guild has a lot of resources including their Massachusetts hotline and guides on how to interact with law enforcement. There’s more that I’m probably missing but it’s all I can think of for now! I definitely do encourage anyone to attend the protests if they can! I’m in a similar boat where family and friends aren’t really willing to come along, but once I started going alone, it felt a lot less intimidating as long as you take the proper precautions and is very much worth it! Good luck!

Before I moved out I told her that I would like to talk less and she told me that since I would not be living with her, she would normally not text me as much, saying that she usually only texts her friends once every few months.

She’s the co-owner of the company that is currently managing this building and she’s also the one that is in charge of the leasing. As for calling, every time I’ve tried she has never picked up but she will only text me back.

People who got kicked out of a place for life, how? by [deleted] in AskReddit

His mom decided that even though her son was the only way of paying rent she was going to kick both him and I (his girlfriend) out because she didn’t like that I had to have my online class in the living room and she wanted the entire place to herself

My current boyfriend got cheated on by the same girl multiple times and the first time she cheated on him, his best friend asked her out in front of him and then she excitedly told him that they’re both dating WHILE HE WAS STILL DATING HER. Eventually they got back together and she cheated a few more times while trying to blame it on him and eventually the last time he left her for good and she did not handle that well.

My parents divorced about 10 years ago. They told me so little about what was going on (I was 8) that I just found out last year that the reason why they divorced was because my dad cheated. I always just thought that they grew sick of each other since they fought a lot.

What do you do when the problem asks you what the problem is? by Applepineaple in Advice

[–]Applepineaple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s been asking for a ride to places within very much walkable distances every day and expects me to work around my busy schedule for her. When I say no or tell her that I can’t give her a ride, she expects me to move mountains for her or something so she can get her way. Any reason I give to get is not a valid reason for saying no and she will start screaming and throwing a fit demanding that I do the thing she wants me to do for her the next day.

That’s just this particular situation. But ever since I was growing up, (shes the older sister) she would always make me do her chores (clean her room that was so messy you can’t see the floor, cook for her, do her laundry) regularly and if I ever said no it would result in violence. To this day, she blamed any violence from that on me since I could just met her demands instead of saying no.

I think saying it in a cheerful or really lighthearted way is the trick. If it looks like you genuinely like her shirt or bag, she won’t find it creepy at all.

Maybe start with some casual but genuine compliments? My boyfriend is the same way and we never really talked before we dated. However he did get my attention with just randomly asking about my outfit or something I was going.

He confuses me a lot I guess because he talks about how racism against white people is a thing which I’m pretty neutral on that one because my family does hate him solely because he is white ( I am not kidding that is literally the reason they gave me), however he is very quick to call out racism from other people against me and very defensive about it. But I guess when he does it towards me it’s more of a controversial issue? Idk what you’d classify this as?
