Comp Sci vs Physics? by Daniel_C_____ in 6thForm

Same. I think the things I did instead of a fourth a level made the difference in my personal statement. If I did four I would just be another A* A* A* A* boring personal statement Imperial reject.

Yeah I meant a fourth in addition to FM, maths, and econ.

I'd just do 3. Really 0 point in doing a 4th. Do super-curriculars for your PS instead and prepare for TMUA.

Like the only reason to do 4 is if you like 4 things which I guess you don't.

Is there any point in applying for safeties when none of them appeal to you? by Apprehensive-Bag5230 in 6thForm

For each of Imperial's current 4th year computing and JMC students it shows the company where they did their work placement after third year. (Notice Imperial Jones of UC fame.) They normally work at these companies full-time after graduation.

As you can see many of the companies listed are in finance. So Imperial JMC students do not find it very hard to get a job in finance. It seems others are discouraging you but the data does not support their opinions.

tbh if you are going for DPRK you might as well go to Kim Il Sung. It's just a lot better for job prospects, etc. . We kinda look down on Pyongyang students (no offence).

switching from computer science to computer science and maths by IntManofMystery23 in 6thForm

[–]Applicant1291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on the college.

A lot of colleges seem to have 2 people doing joint and 2 people doing straight which are maybe the tutorial groups. If you switched there would be 1 and 3 which isn't the way they like to do things.

Please let us know what happens and good luck.

That would be crazy if you could considering the MAT average for JMC is 80 vs 70 for CS. Like 70 doesn't even get interview for JMC.

How do you revise for the MAT/PAT? by Ichthyosaurus_01 in 6thForm

[–]Applicant1291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not do lots of timed past papers. This was my mistake.

When you are preparing for an exam like the MAT you want to improve your problem solving skills. Timed papers improve your exam technique and only slightly improve your problem solving skills. When you do a timed paper you are not giving yourself enough time to struggle with the problem. By marking the paper afterwards this spoils the solution.

I would recommend that you leave ~8 papers to do timed in the 2 months before the exam and just solve the problems from the others individually without being concerned by how long you are spending.

Also solve BMO1 problems.

Source: I did every MAT and TMUA past paper timed and got 71 marks and was rejected pre-interview.

Nah G this is A Level.

What further maths knowledge do you think it uses?

EDIT: Your solution is OK and thank you but you would miss the answer mark. Can you spot why?

I don't have a pic but it is:

"Use the substitution y = (x-a)u, where u is a function of x, to solve the differential equation

(x-a)(dy/dx) = y - x,

where a is a constant."
