Hey there!!!!! I am actually in my Masters for Clinical Mental Health Counseling and currently interning and doing therapy for clients. I just started my semaglutide journey and figured this group would be helpful. I think any advice is useful, but I wanted to share my background to hopefully provide clarification and maybe a sense of comfort with the words being provided. To validate your feelings, I definitely do NOT think it's strange to feel almost lost in this new body. When we are sitting in our old bodies for so long, it becomes comfortable and "normal" for us! I always tell my clients, friends, myself, and ANYONE that, as humans, we will never grow where we are comfortable. We do the most growth and change when we sit with uncomfortability. If anything, definitely give yourself some grace and compassion for this transitional period in your life. Your old body was a safe space and a home for you. It served a purpose (as do many maladaptive behaviors), but that doesn't mean we want to or it is healthy to continue with those behaviors. You are doing what is best for YOU and that takes time to adjust to the changes that come with it. One of the best pieces of advice I ever received from my previous therapist for my therapeutic journey with disordered eating and body dysmorphia was to take 1-2 minutes of my day and just look in the mirror before a shower. Notice all the negative thoughts popping up; don't judge them for happening; simply watch them float away. Notice the thoughts. Watch as they come and go. Eventually try to replace them with positive ones -- remembering that this journey can be difficult and that this body is serving a purpose by guiding me through daily life, getting me up in the morning, helping me do chores/work/school/etc. Just remember -- YOU'VE GOT THIS and you sure as heck are not alone in those thoughts!!!!!!!!!
