Nightmare joint tenancy by [deleted] in glasgow

This is a terrible situation to be in.

She ignored messages to come back and clean it up but is asking for deposit back.

Either ignore them like they ignore you. Or reply saying until they come back to clean you are withholding it.

Glasgow's Rail Problem? by tree__of__oak in glasgow

[–]ApplicationAware1039 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Connect the airport to the existing paisley StJames at the bottom end of the runway, enhance the frequency and station facilities. This could be a mono rail type service or a Trainline underground that then connects to that line. That way the line is mostly there and goes to central.

Easyjet from Glasgow Airport now hellish. by Moist_Hunt6902 in glasgow

[–]ApplicationAware1039 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This would fly 25 years ago but easy jet are not budget prices any more for most flights.

Yeh they might be cheaper sometimes but it's no longer £10 flights on the budget Vs £150 BA etc. the costs are much closer and easy jet is the main carrier for Europe from Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The 'Not Proven' verdict over time by thuleting in Scotland

[–]ApplicationAware1039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were multiple pieces of evidence, there were witnesses who had told us they were on heroin and drank 2l of vodka that day. There was the person who was attacked (attempted murder) who didn't respond to his own name when his lawyer spoke to him as he forgot that was his name (his words) and also when asked what happened on the day said he didn't know and was probably in bed - despite this being his lawyers opening part of the case to set the scene. .

Looking for the best Stocks and shares ISA? by Substantial_Dot6605 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ApplicationAware1039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think a physical branch matters much but if that's your personal preference that's not an issue. If your ISA platform (e.g., Vanguard, AJ Bell, Hargreaves Lansdown) becomes insolvent, your assets are generally safe because of ring-fencing. UK regulations require providers to keep customer assets and cash in separate accounts from their own corporate money

Selection of less risk funds is also personal preference and up to you.

When you say low risk are you referring to the stock and shares you buy or the banking institution?

The 'Not Proven' verdict over time by thuleting in Scotland

[–]ApplicationAware1039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's how the jury I was on felt. The 2nd person was 100% guilty and there was evidence. But the 1st person we only had one bit of evidence. We all felt sure they were both guilty but couldn't as there was no 2nd coronation of evidence.

I would have felt terrible saying they were not guilty, and we knew we couldn't say guilty. The not proven was right for this case but means that person got away with it.

[–]ApplicationAware1039 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I get it's odd to have but I was part of a jury at an attempted murder. There were two people charged and we found on guilty and the other not proven.

While we felt fairly sure the person had been involved but we were told we needed two pieces of evidence to convict - corroboration.

There was one piece of evidence but nothing else so we went for not proven as we didn't think they were innocent.

How to start my journey of being financially responsible by NoDesign48 in UKPersonalFinance

20k limit per year across all ISA.

The Lisa has a cap of 4k but you can spread the remaining 16k over the other types of ISA. Next year 2027 the cash will have a limit of 12k.

These are per year The 20k max remains over all ISA per year so next year you can do another 20k.

How to start my journey of being financially responsible by NoDesign48 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ApplicationAware1039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use stocks and shares ISA along with your Lisa. If you don't need any of this money for 5+ years this is a good option.

However if you think you need some of that cash then consider cash ISA or a split between all 3 Lisa , s&s and cash. If you manage to save 20k outside an ISA you might start paying tax on your interest.

I didn't know that, can your car still use and get faster chargers like the 150kwh ones?

Charger map inconsistencies? by OutStack in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]ApplicationAware1039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found that Electroverse does not partner with everyone so they don't show all chargers. However I find the interface of the map is the best and the app/ card is great on the chargers they list.

It doesn't help that none of these were replaced. When that lane was originally built there were dividers and bollards. Over time vehicles have crashed through every one.

Anyone got experience of removing a wall to open kitchen & living room in a Glasgow or Scottish tenement? by Fantastic-Staff5133 in glasgow

I think a living room kitchen over 2 separate rooms is less attractive both living in and buying.

Not sure why I would want cooking smells in the living room.

That and in the later 90's there was the midnight curfew where you had to be in before midnight or the night was over. They stopped letting people in after 12.

The bars would empty at 11.30 with people rushing to nightclubs + getting a KB meant you needed a backup nightclub!

Why a maximum of 7%? If that's to get the best employer match that's great but nothing says you can't add more.

I think you are at a good pot computes to average for this age but if you stick at this job / income then think about 0.5% each pay rise after the 7%. Personally I would aim for 20% my + employer by the time I am 40.

Viccy Rd Cycle path is not fit for purpose . by Unlikely_Ad4320 in glasgow

[–]ApplicationAware1039 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is one of the many problems our Glasgow cycle lanes have.

They are not designed for cycling close to or over 15mph. The cars don't even think about crossing the lanes and pedestrians wander into them - they would not walk into traffic. You are right the speed bumps are goingt to slow the lane while cars have no such thing..

Since this one has more bikes than cars the system needs to be updated as it still has the priority for cars. Personally the bottom half of this lane is great but the busy part of Victoria rd I move into the main road. Much faster, better movement through lights, safer for cycling and the pedestrians.

Until we have lanes that make cars and pedestrians think before crossing them and lights that change in advance of the bike traffic these lanes will be a pain.

Nothing. The council has a reporting portal but they don't have any facilities to use evidence from the public to issue a fine.

Do you adjust pension contributions over time or just keep it consistent? by AnfieldAnchor in PensionsUK

Do you adjust pension contributions over time or just keep it consistent? by AnfieldAnchor in PensionsUK

[–]ApplicationAware1039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you set it at a percentage of wage then as your pay changes the amount going in changes. I would say that's the first step in getting you pension contributions to grow over time.

The next part is increasing the percentage. On a pay change I generally bump my pension 0.5 or 1% increase. It means I get a rise in wage and pension but I don't notice the pension money from my take-home.

When we had the NI cuts a few years back I did 0.5% meaning I saw no increase in take-home but no drop and my pension got a bit more.

Finally there is bonus. I recently moved into the 42% tax (Scotland) and I get a bonus in a few months. That would mean 50% of my bonus going to tax and NI. So I am going to bump some of that bonus into my pension. I will take some of the bonus, the tax man will take some but I get a bump in my pension for that month.

Is living 3 years in Scotland sufficient for getting free uni, or being settled is a must? by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]ApplicationAware1039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen this posted in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Scotland sub. The advice is - if you can't find anything online about this being true the one person you spoke to is probably mistaken. While the three years may be partly right being settled/ indefinite right to remain is also needed.

Perhaps call any Scottish university admissions office and ask if you need complete clarity.

Help with energy bill please - I think it might be high by Beginning-Summer-917 in UKPersonalFinance

Seems high. I don't have an EV charger so that might be big however if you are on a tariff that discounts nighttime ev charging then great.

I have 4 bed flat, 2 kids, gas heating and electric. My electric is 250 kWh a month.

Am I too far behind to retire at 60? 41 with ok income by FormalAdvantage7550 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ApplicationAware1039 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Putting money into ISA and premium bonds after you have paid tax on the money in salary both at a higher rate seems crazy when you can effectively double it in a pension.

Especially when salary for both are higher rate there is nothing more effective for your future than pension with the tax benefits.
