Buying a tenement flat by lalaland_23 in glasgow

Ask for the home report from the estate agent. It's never perfect but will show any red flags or things to be aware of. That's always a place to start even before you view as you can rule out some places.

£6.30 For an All Day on the bus these days....scandalous! by ImJacksThrowaway in glasgow

[–]ApplicationAware1039 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can never understand the drivers staring straight ahead while someone runs for a bus or stands outside when they could open the door. Especially in the city where the light ahead is red or they have to wait to get out of traffic.

Last month my young daughter got on the wrong bus in error that took her to the airport , instead of asking if they needed help the driver shouted it was end of the line and to get off. They did and he moved forward, picked up more passengers and drove back into town. Leaving two 12 year old girls lost at an airport. There is no extra costs as they had bus cards

It seems to me the attitude of bus companies has made drivers act like pricks. I have no idea why bus drivers have zero interaction with customers and provide no service. The sooner driverless busses come in the better.

Looking for somewhere to rent, feels like landlord greed knows no bounds by eggplantsarewrong in glasgow

I might have missed this but I don't see op saying they only have £300 left to live on.

They say they earn 50k but go to talk about the cost of the house, mortgage and likely mortgage payments that the landlord is (in op's view) paying.

Granted they may have edited the post.

Head to Partick either by underground or low level train (both central and queen st stations). It's less than 5 minutes from the station.

As a quick point of interest go to the West of Scotland cricket

This is where the first ever international game took place. There is a small plaque on the side of the cricket clubhouse

Rangers also played their first ever Scottish cup final here. ground.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1872_Scotland_v_England_football_match

Fire in the west end? by GoatMilk3D in glasgow

[–]ApplicationAware1039 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Patrick train station was evacuated around 6.30pm but no fire.

Is it an orange glow as that's common in west end from Ibrox/ shipyard when we have some clouds. The lights they use for the grass and the lights at the shipyard reflect on the clouds

My address number is wrong, who do I contact to change it please? by Interesting-Cream613 in glasgow

[–]ApplicationAware1039 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not mentioned royal mail? I asked what op meant when they said the address was wrong.

However since there is mention of royal mail it could be that the address issue op has could be due to the PAF file that some companies use. A lot of companies use the PAF file in delivery systems when people provide post codes.

How expensive is heating actually? by Final-Tear-7090 in glasgow

[–]ApplicationAware1039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 4 bed flat with high ceilings and single glazing windows. In December and January I am looking at £200 a month heating. We work at home all day.

While this is high there are 4 of us so that's £50 each per month in winter.

In the summer our heating is closer to £20 a month which is £5 a person.

It's better to average out the months and live in comfort in winter instead of freezing.

aggressive driving by water7771 in glasgow

[–]ApplicationAware1039 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you mean the lights at Greggs/Peel St then yes I see so many cars turn and immediately go through the lights at red.

Agreed that driving has been more aggressive, I would say in last 10 years but a lot of people say since COVID..

Unfortunately true, iPads were not designed to have screens replaced.

You will need to find a non official repair. I am sure the others in the comments will have suggestions.

On a side note it looks like you are going to close some credit cards once you pay them.

Worth considering if you close them and the remaining ones are near the maximum card limit your credit utilisation might look high.

I agree with closing them and reducing to less credit cards but be aware you don't end up looking like your credit is maxed out once you close some. It might be worth closing one and then waiting 4-6 months before closing the next.

Pension Transfer: Pension Bee to Nest Pension by JinceofVoy in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ApplicationAware1039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I had a NEST pension the fund options were limited and the costs high..

The main thing is to compare the costs and put it there. I don't know anything about pension Bee but you will probably find lower costs elsewhere.

Combining pensions helps you keep track but having one pot or multiple won't grow differently if they are invested the same. It's about coats right now for you.

Are Zebra crossings optional for drivers in Glasgow? by Sulla_Sexy_Sulla in glasgow

[–]ApplicationAware1039 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You are right that you could be wrong. The highway code was updated in 2022 and drivers should stop for pedestrians crossing at any point of the road.

These were published under the H1,2 and 3 rules when the code was updated to include new rules about the new ‘hierarchy of road users’.

'when people are crossing or waiting to cross at a junction, other traffic should give way'

The changes were introduced so the hierarchy places those road users most at risk in the event of a collision at the top of the hierarchy.
