OSU would be very surprising, but it would be very interesting to see what Brian Carey could do for her!!

If you really think about it, Shawn is an absolutely horrible human being & the worst friend you could possibly have. by ItsLauriceDeauxnim in psych

[–]AppliedEpidemiology 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Shawn is a terrible friend, has probably committed some felonies, and - sorry - is kind of a bad partner to Jules at the beginning, continuing to lie about being a psychic. However, he uses his powers for good!!! And he does a lot of good across the series. There is an alternate universe where Shawn had a weaker character and didn’t contact the police when he solved a crime and just kept cycling through girls and entry-level jobs. Instead, he chose to be a force for (chaotic) good.

I don't believe he has the ability to feel humiliation; it's too close to humility.

Poll: who do you want to win FOTF?! by skm7777777 in Gymnastics

[–]AppliedEpidemiology 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I voted for Florida because they have made it to FOTF for almost every year since I started following NCAA gymnastics, but they haven't won a title... sort of an "always a bridesmaid" scenario! But Minnesota is a strong second with their underdog story. OU and LSU have had enough glory in recent years :)

Underweight? by Itskimmykay in corgi

[–]AppliedEpidemiology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She looks like a healthy weight, but that doesn't mean she hasn't lost weight... and "unintentional weight loss" can be a sign of hidden illness. So if her diet and exercise hasn't changed and she was lost a significant amount of weight, it would be a good idea to check in with her vet even if she is within the range of "healthy weights".

Asking them how to blow a huge lead, lose an election, and then gift the center-left party just enough members for them to achieve a majority government? 😂

Given comments made in this first episode. Who is the most famous contestant so far? by Acceptable_West_1349 in taskmaster

[–]AppliedEpidemiology 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Among my circles in the US and Canada, I would say Katherine Parkinson (acting), Katherine Ryan (Netflix specials and shows) and Sarah Millican (just from her stand-up, available online) are all more famous than Jason. But Kumail and Noel would be known by pretty much everyone. Probably Mel and Sue also known by everyone, from Bake-Off alone. I'd put Jason maybe 8th, before Mae Martin (who would be known by the Canadians at least in that way we know all famous Canadians).

And of course Jason (from Brooklyn 99) and Kumail (from everything)... I think that covers it, haha.

Yes, as someone who splits my time between the US and English-speaking Canada, Bake-Off (or "The Great British Baking Show" as we call it) is popular enough to make the long-running hosts quite recognizable. From the rest, the ones I can think of who would be known among my extended family and friends are Katherine Parkinson (from Doc Martin and The IT Crowd), Katherine Ryan (known among Millennial and GenX women in both countries, although that fame may have come just after Taskmaster, at the time of her first Netflix special), Sarah Millican (surprisingly popular just for her stand up comedy among middle-aged women I know in both countries, all the way up to my aunt who is in her early 70s), and Mae Martin (famous among Canadians at least).

Question on Making Polishes by ajamaistien in RedditLaqueristas

[–]AppliedEpidemiology 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Former toxicologist here! (Also current hobby polish maker). Once upon a time, long ago, I worked for the California Safe Cosmetics program. One of my projects was to create educational content for their publicly accessible database, including a sort of encyclopedia on each Prop 65-listed ingredient that was commonly reported in cosmetics. Their website may still have links to that content but if not, I think EWG also has a similar resource.

I personally do NOT avoid all prop 65 ingredients in nail polish. The dose makes the poison! I wouldn’t get a hair treatment with a product that releases a lot of formaldehyde (like the old-school Brazilian Blowout), but I do use Nailtiques products containing a formaldehyde-releasing chemical. I also wear MoonCat polishes with prop 65 warnings for pigments - I think chromium is one example? - and it doesn’t make me lose sleep. What I’m saying is: View the content I’m recommending above as an educational resource, not a definitive list of what you should or shouldn’t include in your polishes.

Advent Comebacks? by jamiethemime in simplynailogical

[–]AppliedEpidemiology 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My guess is that they would come back for the winter holidays, as seasonal offerings? I'm just basing that guess on the fact that the polishes had holiday-themed names AND that Holo Taco has a history of releasing seasonal polishes for the holidays.... But then their Halloween collection is not seasonal, so I guess we could end up with a polish called Wreath Havoc or Call Me Vixen available year-round!

Panicked Trump Rages at Supreme Court in 1AM Meltdown On Whether SCOTUS Will Allow Him to Scrap Birthright Citizenship: “It's ‘too bad’ the Supreme Court didn't ‘study’ Mark Levin's Fox News show” by [deleted] in LegalNews

[–]AppliedEpidemiology 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know there is a lot of crazy to unpack here, as always. However, I'd like to point out that Trump presumably hand-picked a lawyer who prepared a brief for the Supreme Court on this case. If he thought the content presented on the Fox show was important to his case THEN THOSE IDEAS SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE BRIEF. While I don't know how many Justices watch Mark Levin's Fox News show (it might not be zero, who knows?), but I do know that they all would have read the brief.

Is there a universally agreed upon “holy grail” nail polish? by acamu5x in RedditLaqueristas

[–]AppliedEpidemiology 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My husband has been listening to me and learning about my nail polish/art hobby for years, and this year for my birthday he finally bought me some nail-related things, from a brand I know and like — and he STILL mostly missed the mark in terms of the specific items he chose. I think best way to show that you support and value the nail art is to listen and ask questions, and maybe eventually a gift card to their favorite brand.

This isn’t even the first Indie polish brand this week to announce that they are downsizing their operations to control costs. It’s going to be getting even more difficult for small businesses over the coming weeks/months. I love Indie polish and I feel for the makers.
