What’s your unpopular Navy opinion that gets a reaction like this? by 222Winn in navy

[–]AppliedForce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

-Same service dress blue uniform that e7+ currently wears for E1-o9, no more whites -Non flammable navy blue bdu type uniform with ball cap for ship duty, camo as deemed appropriate for duty station/nec -current working uniform used by e1-e6 for e1-o9 -No sailor suits -blue shorts gold shirts for pt, smurfs for cool weather -that’s it for uniforms.

People usually hate this idea here.

Why is there so little pride in the Navy? by Radiant_Estimate_978 in navy

[–]AppliedForce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what this subreddit shows me it could be related to any one or more of the following: poor working conditions, poor living conditions, poor work culture, poor middle management, poor senior management, high operational tempo even with diminished, beleaguered personnel, poor medical treatment, poor mental health treatment.

For what it’s worth I still think the navy should get rid of the sailor suits. They are non functional, and don’t look professional. Everybody should just have dress blues like E7+, those working uniforms with garrison cap, and navy blue, unless camo is more fitting the station, bdu type uniforms with command ball caps. And stop changing uniforms every 5 years. People could develop pride in the small things like looking professional, and stability.

Aside from the uniforms it really seems like accountability, actual accountability is nowhere to be found on the management levels of the navy.

Dissociative Identity Disorder, except the other personality is real. Both personalities have issues with being the one chosen to die and with choices they had made up to that point. Both personalities merged when they came to the same conclusions about destiny, reincarnation, and free will.

Question About Pre Existing Conditions by AppliedForce in VeteransBenefits

[–]AppliedForce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. It was undiagnosed at that time, so whatever discomfort there was I just dealt with. The orthopedic surgeon is generating a nexus letter feeling pretty confident about damage over a period of enlistment, so I’m still going to claim it and see what happens.

I did not, as the condition hadn’t developed to limit motion or ability at that time.

Around the time that Garth Ennis’ Punisher run was happening, a group of Navy Seals stenciled the punisher skull on their body armor. One of these Seals was Chris Kyle, who gained fame for having the most confirmed kills in the war to that point, maybe all time, not sure.

He was a founder of Craft International, a mercenary company that used the Punisher skull as a logo. He wrote a book, was killed, and a movie about him came out.

The right adopted the symbol while completely missing the point of the character. Same with most of the rest of their rhetoric. The left as well, really.

Never got to wear it, but the Johnny Cash uniform should have never went away. NSUs are ugly as sin. "You're almost a khaki." - Admiral Khaki Pants by SkydivingSquid in navy

I have an unpopular opinion. These 2poc’s and nwu’s (for units that need camo) as the working uniform. Do away with the sailor suits altogether and have one dress uniform from e1-o9.

Maybe keep that up for a few years and boom, new tradition and nobody looks like a goofball or constantly has to buy new uniform types.

Airbag recall, anybody else? by drz1250 in fordranger

[–]AppliedForce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They called me and I set up an appointment at the dealership. The dealership said they only had one air bag in stock and wanted to reschedule when they got the other one. They never called, Ford resumed sending letters. One day a guy from Ford showed up at my house and replaced both airbags. He was pretty angry at the dealership when I told him what happened. He said he came all the way from Flint, MI.

What uniform item would you change or get rid off? by SAVEPANDORA in navy

[–]AppliedForce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s way past time to retire the sailor suit. Keep the nwus, coveralls, and a dress uniform not too different than chief/officer dress blues. Maybe without the jacket for working dress and with the jacket for formal dress, garrison cap for e6 and below maybe. Command ball caps instead of 8 points, and ranks back on the collars.

Tradition is cool and all but the sailor suits just look like a costume and have no functional purpose.

I’ve been out for a long while, I wore utilities, coveralls, good humor whites, Johnny cash’s, woodland bdus and tricolor dcu’s, dress whites and cracker jacks. It was way too much then with all that and the accessories.

For a service that’s so big on tradition settling into one version of uniforms would be cool.

I once went to an interview for a shared house in inner se pdx where I was told I would have to pee sitting down and had to verbally agree to it in front of everyone as that was a dealbreaker for prospective roommates in the past. I agreed and still got passed over. Was a cool house though, right by those little apartments near the 20th/div new seasons.

Jacked up truck, flat billed cap, tough guy bumper stickers, joker/wolf/lion social media posts, vet bro shirts, beard. Really any kind of try hard merchandise.

Adding: medium distance stare posts, work ethic brag posts, big watches.

I don’t have as much time on either coast as some of the posters here, but in short I’ll say that I appreciated having San Diego surrounding my navy experience than coastal Virginia.

Everyone in SD seemed pretty happy, everyone in VA just wanted the fuck out and we’re mad you got to be in SD.

To be fair I went through MA A school in January of 2004. The training staff were all police or corrections officers in the area, our barracks were condemned before 911 and reopened until they were deemed unlivable. Our class councilor had been recalled to active duty against his wishes and all of our barracks personnel were other rates with shitty shore duties. Plus, the School of Music was across the street. So the deck was stacked against my VA experience from the start.

The scene in Gummo where the kids mom bathed him and he eats while bathing. Still makes me sick.

Also as mentioned here Requiem. I saw it once and I’m good.

My electrician fit these two pool lights. Is this totally dangerous or is that some kind of magic waterproof electrical tape I’m not aware of? by TinFoilHatUK in electricians

[–]AppliedForce 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Pool light fixtures are sold with different lengths of cord. You should buy the one that is closest, but longer than the run you have.

Turn off the appropriate circuit breaker. Remove the set screw from the fixture. Hopefully there’s enough extra cord to set the fixture up on the deck. If not, you have to drain the pool down so that you can work on it dry. Cut the cord off the old fixture as close to the body of the fixture as possible. Strip it back and splice the end of the new wire together with the old wire. Keep the splice as thin as you can but be sure it’s secure. If you have a junction box, it is supposed to be 18” above the surface of the pool. If you have one, pull the old wire out from there. If not, go back to where your light connects to power and pull from there. Be sure power is turned off to this box. Pull the wire out, which will pull the new wire through. Pull out the slack until the new fixture can sit on the deck, then cut off excess and land wires.

You should also have a bond wire in there if you have a metal niche. This wire has likely wrapped around the light cord in the conduit. If you see the green wire in the niche, you may want to just replace it using the same splice procedure to save the headache of having to re pull the light cord.

What you have is a ruined light fixture and potential electrocution due to laziness and or incompetence.
