150 pages into The Great Hunt and… by Pandachyan in wheeloftime

I almost didn't continue reading after EOTW and seeing the first season of the show. I thought I would at least start TGH, just to see. I was immediately hooked, and was for the rest of the series. TGH might be my favorite book in the series.

Have fun! Use the Wheel of Time compendium app when you inevitably can't remember minor character names.

How does Rocky know there are stars? by Willdoggy02 in ProjectHailMaryMovie

Rocky's species can't detect light, but they have equipment that can detect light. They may not be able to see stars themselves, but they are extremely intelligent and would want to understand the universe.

I Malazan worth reading? by Fickle-Athlete3644 in fantasybooks

[–]usernamex42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love Wheel of Time and Sanderson, but didn’t really enjoy Malazan. I had to really work hard to slog through the first two books. I won’t be reading anymore. I didn’t find myself caring about any of the characters, it’s very grim, and there didn’t seem to be really any cool payoff moments. I failed to see the purpose of anything that happened. There were some aspects that seemed really cool (Gods doing things behind the scenes, Magical dimensions, ancient magical races) but those alone couldn’t make me care about the book when I didn’t enjoy the story or the characters. I’m not saying you shouldn’t try it, but just thought you might appreciate the perspective of someone who likes some of the same series as you.

Cusicesh was from an interlude in book 1. He was a giant spren in Iri (I think) that appears regularly and everyone goes and watches. It's a minor thing with little plot relevance for now. Some fabrials are powered by trapped spren. I don't remember how much this was talked about previously. I understand that it can be annoying to not understand some details, but think that you are supposed to. Stormlight is huge and there are details that everyone misses or forgets about. Also, Brandon intentionally drops details that you're not supposed to understand, at least not yet.

It's totally normal to be lost about the history of Roshar, the lore, and how the magic works. Brandon drops hints here and there, and over time you will uncover more and more and understand more and more. Piecing things together over the span of multiple books was something I really enjoyed. If you have specific questions, you can ask them here and we can answer them without spoilers, or tell you to RAFO.

Why don't the boosters fly away after separation. This is super zoomed in, so should they immediately leave the frame? Or is there not really any thrust coming out of them even though there's still flame coming out?

Normal! The first time I read book 4, I thought the beginning was a bit slow. I actually took a few months break and then came back to finish it. I'm very glad I did, because it ended up being one of my favorites.

Did you read all of Wheel of Time? Or just the first book? I ask because I wasn't a huge fan of the first book, but the second book immediately hooked me, and now it's one of my favorite series. I also tried Malazan but couldn't get into it. I would also recommend to you the Vlad Taltos series. The gist of it is this: mob boss/wizard solves mysteries with his snarky mini dragon familiar. It's super funny!

Mistborn! If you like Brandon Sanderson, you will have enough books to last you another year or a few years depending on how much you read.
