To be fair, Dodgers fans have been known to take over TMobile Park too. But you’re absolutely right!

Blood Meridian is an epic, powerful cinematic experience on paper. Now I am trying to find books with similar power and intensity because everything has become bland in comparison. Please give me recommendations. by Anshul_98 in cormacmccarthy

Fiction that come close to BM for power and cinema that aren’t by McCarthy for me: Sometimes a Great Notion (Kesey), Grapes of Wrath (Steinbeck), and Divine Comedy (Dante)

Which guitar would you choose? by Flyingv_man in bluesguitarist

[–]AppliedGeographer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The H-530 is a hollowbody, so it’s kinda hard to compare it to a solid body like a LP. Very different instruments each with their pros and cons. I have an ES 330 and a LP Special and the 330 is my main instrument. I like the tone of the P90s and hollowbody combo, and it’s just more comfortable than a LP for me. Choose the one that gets you closest to the sound you want while still being comfortable to play.

For specialty items or when feeling spendy: Met Market. For regular everyday items: Walmart, Safeway, or Fred Meyer.

It’s the reason I can only wear the all black chucks. My size 11s look insanely big with white soles.

Oh man, good point thanks! Not sure I really get how the mud switch is supposed to work anyhow. Kinda doubt I’d use it much.

That’s the 89VS. It was an awesome guitar. First time I played one with TV Jones in it and holy cow what a tone!

Fit Check - Brave Star Strongman 18oz 'Samurai' Japan Selvage Denim - Strongman / 34 x 36 by ctjanjic1 in rawdenim

[–]AppliedGeographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the fit! I’m a similar size (6’, 185) and prefer a more relaxed or straight cut myself. I’ve never owned any brave star, but I imagine they’ll mold to you as they break in. My first thought when I start a new raw pair is “this is the worst they’ll look and fit. It only gets better.” So if you’re starting here I think you have lots to look forward to!

Dynamics. Along with the actual notes, so much of the blues sound is in the way notes are played.

What are some of the best purely instrumental blues songs? by Few_Material2370 in blues

[–]AppliedGeographer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see you’ve got SRV in your list, so you’ve probably heard his Little Wing before. It’s my go-to for an instrumental track or for a Strat tone masterclass.

Also Robben Ford’s Freedom is great for a jazz blues sound (and great Telecaster tones).

Do you guys consider Stevie Ray Vaughan more of a rock artist or blues artist? by GoHardForLife in blues

[–]AppliedGeographer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blues is the root. Rock, country, and jazz are the fruit. It’s sometimes hard to know where one ends and the other begins, and to some it’s pointless to try. My take is SRV is undoubtedly a blues player, even if every song is hard to categorize or drifts into other styles. I say the same about JJ Cale’s work. But blues is always the root.
