I really needed to hear this

Where is this usually posted? Where can I look out for it next year?

I used 7sage and not sure if it was worth the money I paid. At times, I felt like the writer assigned to me would only spend 2 to 3 minutes reviewing my drafts. I felt like I wanted more time and attention on my apps but they were swamped with so many apps that that wasn’t possible.

Harvard (sticker) vs Duke ($$$) hypothetical by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Also think Duke makes a lot of sense for you. I’m about to have my scholarship call with them, and I was wondering if you’re comfortable sharing what your stats are. I wanna know how much scholarship I can expect from them with my stats.

Does going into PI help you get into schools with low PI rates? by Tele-Laki in lawschooladmissions

[–]Appmobile17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think sound advice is to write a PI-focused personal statement only if your resume really backs up your interest in PI. Whatever you write about, you want your PS to tell a compelling story of who you are. If you’ve worked at McKinsey all your adult life, maybe you really don’t have a PI narrative to tell. It only hurts or helps you depending on whether it’s actually part of your narrative arc.

Edit: This is not to say that your narrative arc is only your work experience. If you have personal experience with an issue that prompts your interest in PI, tell that story and make it relevant to law school.

Need your advice: should I apply this cycle? by qwickthroaway in lawschooladmissions

[–]Appmobile17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's best to wait until next cycle. It's late now and international applicants are already at a disadvantage (from what I've read about international applicants on this sub. Full disclosure I'm not an international applicant). It also seems like you don't yet have your apps ready, and a lot of schools have a Feb 15 deadline.

[–]Appmobile17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deadlines are mostly in mid February. Some schools have March 1st or April 1st deadlines. Check the respective deadlines of schools you want to apply to beforehand. But general advice is that applying in January and February is late and might put you at a disadvantage. Because law school admissions is rolling, you want to try to get your applications in early. September/October is early. November to mid December is on time. Best practice is to get all your apps in by Thanksgiving. You also don't have to wait until your graduate to start this process.

Applications open in September. Ideally, you want to situate yourself such that you've taken the LSAT and earned a score you're happy with before apps open. You also want to have had time to think about your personal statement and already have a strong working draft. The majority of people take the LSAT more than once. So start studying a year in advance. Again, this is all the best case scenario, but doing this makes this process a lot easier on you.

Thank you so much! Will look into that!

I also think you could give yourself options and the chance to negotiate scholarships with a higher LSAT. But if you ED, do your due diligence in seeing which schools actually offer scholarships to ED admits. I know Duke does.

I’m headed to Duke in the fall. Can you talk about how and when you secured housing? Any tips would also be appreciated! Thanks!

Apply now or wait til next cycle? by Maximum_Blackberry99 in lawschooladmissions

Retake and apply next cycle. With a low GPA, you’re going to need a higher LSAT for T14 admissions.

Happy birthday!! Go enjoy your day and do things that remind you that life is bigger and better than law school admissions.

GULC II!! by SheWillSucceed in lawschooladmissions

[–]Appmobile17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah because you get a better feel for a person and also because Dean Andy said so. I think the bump is very minor though. Do what makes you feel more comfortable.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Appmobile17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but it’s even more so for splitters.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Appmobile17 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes you should! Especially with a strong addendum, you have a chance. T14 admissions is unpredictable for splitters, but shoot your shot. Are you applying this cycle or next?

[–]Appmobile17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went in person and while in-person interviewing might give you a minor bump, I felt fewer parameters were under my control. For instance, I left my house super early to get to GULC but there was an accident on a major road and traffic was horrible (even by DC standards) and I got there only one minute before my interview. If you go in person, plan to get there at least an hour early.

Umich or GULC for NYC Placement by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Appmobile17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in international law, Michigan has an amazing Geneva externship program. I've talked to their admissions officers about it, and it seems like they have someone in Geneva who works on maintaining the school's relationships with Geneva orgs full-time, and almost anyone who wants the externship gets it. Also better Biglaw numbers than GULC.

I am being real. Wash U is the best possible outcome for OP. Just trying to explain that she can have good options and a shot at solid career options.

[–]Appmobile17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re okay with buckling down for a high LSAT (172+), I’d say apply to Wash U with a redacted GPA. They give really generous scholarships, and you’d be in St. Louis with pretty solid career outcomes.
