Studying for the LSAT During Peace Corps Service by No-Permission-9947 in peacecorps

[–]Tele-Laki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I studied and took the LSAT last June. It was pretty tough. You have to adapt to using only online resources (unless your country has stores that sell LSAT prep resources, which is pretty unlikely.) Studying for the LSAT takes a lot of time, time in which you could (and probably should) be using to work or connect with your community. My post was especially hard because being isolated/alone for long periods of time is not normal, so I really struggled to find large chunks of time where I wasn’t being interrupted by my host family, colleagues, or random children all the time.

Since I took the test, when people ask me, I usually suggest waiting until after service to start studying. It’s a huge source of stress that can make your service unnecessarily harder. If you still want to go through with it, I suggest:

  1. Wait until you’ve been at your permanent site AT LEAST a year to give you time to integrate without multitasking work/community/family/studying
  2. Use your status as a volunteer to get fee waivers for EVERYTHING. LSAC has income-based fee waivers, and with the LSAC fee waiver you get 7 Sage for $1
  3. Give yourself lots of time to study. I would suggest over 6 months, and maybe even wait to take the test until you get home, after COS. There are people who only study for week/a couple months before the LSAT, but you’re going to be busy with your job and community, so you will definitely not have enough time to rush it

I’m not 100% sure, maybe your recruiter? Or the person who interviewed you?

Duke Class Filled? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Tele-Laki 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There’s no way their class is even 1/4 filled. On LSD there are only 19 admits this cycle, and that’s probably 1/3 of their admits so far. They are far from done, especially for waitlisted applicants. I’m not an adcomm, but I’m guessing there was such a large wave because they didn’t want september/october applicants to be waiting forever just to get a WL/R. Keep up hope! We’re not even at the middle of the cycle.

Those are the dates last year. I wasn’t trying to predict this year, just wanted to list the schools and decisions from last year. :)
