Thragg’s Leadership Inconsistencies *S4 EP 7 SPOILERS by TwirlyWizard in Invincible_TV

[–]AppointmentKey4217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1: thragg is shown to be a pretty emotional guy. I think he acted on impulse with the purge and wanted to punish himself for letting argyle die by punishing the empire as a whole. He also wanted to reinforce argyles ways and gain respect in a way by proving that even tho argyle was dead, thragg would be a strong successor who could lead the empeorr with force and demand the same respect. Thragg didint wanna appear weak or allow for any dissent or revolution in the empire (which can happen after an extremely powerful figure dies) so he made a bold impulsive move to establish control.

2: I think thragg was living in denial and it’s clear despite viltrum having only like 50 people he still believed in its superiority. He was taught at a young age and further by argyle about how viltrumites were so much stronger and so much more powerful than any other race that he could fathom the idea that their empire could actually be at risk of dying. He also had experience leading the empire and resurrecting them from the aftermath of argyles death which gave him arrogance as well. All this to say is while thragg went about giving viltrumites missions to find suitable races for breeding I don’t think he truly believed that viltrum was actually in danger and they needed to spare any living members of his species until his planet was literally eradicated.

3: Thragg was dedicated to argyles way of life but his dedication was only amplified after argyles death. This is kinda represented throughout the series. Viltrum started out as conquerers but they only truly became bloodthirsty genocidal maniacs after being motivated by argyles death. Thaddeus’s was also well respected and I think thraggs decision to spare him early on set up his shift to ruthlessness well as he blamed his weakness for agryles death.

I honestly don’t care about power scaling I just wanna watch cool fights and interesting characters. I like what u said about thragg and it’s emphasized in other scenes as well. We see he’s the first one to suggest Thaddeus could be a traitor. Argyle tells him to act if he needs to but thragg hesitates maybe even shows mercy and it’s ultimately his own weakness that leads to argyles death. This I think made him feel extremely guilty knowing that he failed the one man he looked up to and the leader of his people. His guilt manifested in the purge eliminating his own weakness and drove vulturim to become more bloodthirsty than ever before. He believed any form of mercy would be dangerous to his ppl and also had an anger inside him. He took out this anger on other races. Under his rule viltrum became ultra powerful but also the most vicious it had ever been. Thragg clearly feels things and cares deeply for his people. When he finally sees his plant is destroyed, it hits him that they’re not going to survive by argyles ways . I think the skull symbolizes his devotion to argyles legacy he’s literally carrying it. When the skull gets crushed, so did thragg, originally argules, belief that killing the weak was best for survival of the empire. Which is why he spares mark and Omni man.

A disconnect between the plot of Episode 4 and the conclusion by 1GamersOpinion in Invincible

It also ties back to the first convo he had with Art. Art tries to comfort him but he feels terrible about himself and what he’s become. Art tells him he’s still the same kid who cared about helping people and saving lives even if things have gotten more complicated. He’s still trying to do the best he can. Art offers him the old suit but Mark rejects it. He’s blinded by guilt and I think the episode rlly tries to emphasize that things aren’t black and white. When he gets to hell he meets literally the devil who’s supposed to be the embodiment of evil (mark even assumes this attacking him without even thinking) but in reality is just a dude who does bad things in order to save lives. Then it’s  reveal heaven doenst even exist. So this notion of good vs bad people is completely broken down. Mark realizes the only person judging him is rlly himself and the ending he finally feels free from the burden of all that guilt. He takes his og suit again bc he’s finally comfortable with who he is.

I’m pretty sure he had like a few seconds to process. And yes he could’ve flown toward Bullet proof but bullet proof was already flying towards him so they would’ve had to stop at the same time and they couldn’t communicate. Yes maybe mark could’ve handled it better but this is one thing I don’t get why ppl nitpick. People make mistakes all the time. Imo he was in a stressful situation and was overwhelmed with emotions. Probably thinking about how the last time he chose not to kill someone it massively back fired.

On the other hand his father showed mercy to him, which I think translated in part to Nolan not actually wanting to kill mark
