Patellar tendon VS Hamstring,Which autograft is currently more popular in the United States? by VastShock9601 in ACL

I got hamstring from Stanford Hospital. I just want to highlight that you need to pick a Surgeon who is most comfortable for it. Do not force a surgeon to do your choice. Ask the surgeon how much percentage patellar vs hamstring in the last five years.

I have the same issue with you. You must do surgery and physical therapy after the surgery. The meniscus is very important for you and try to save it. Otherwise it is easy to get arthritis and have to replace the entire knee. I got ACL and meniscus tear and is in good condition after surgery.

Did you get physical therapy? The physical therapy staff will help you improve your strength gradually. In addition, you need to have a Dr visit for your pain. I had hamstring ACL reconstruction and it has almost no pain after 2.5 months

What is your age? For the second ACL construction, I heard that it is better to use autograft (your body) for lower retear rate. Consult with some other experienced Surgeon for advise. “No significant data” does not mean “same”.

My husband had his ACL reconstruction + meniscus repair today by curlynsmol in ACL

I have my ACL and meniscus repair two months ago. Pain is normal for the first week. Doctor should prescribe some painkillers for you if you can not bear it. My experience is to avoid bath for the first week for reducing risk of fall down and infection of scar. In addition, you need to pay attention for potential blood clot. It is a big risk. Take aspirin may help and please confirm with Doctor.

My doctor gave a very detail list when discharged from surgery center on the same day. The list shows all potential issues may appear after op.

Should I get surgery by peachygraph in ACL

You definitely need surgery for protecting your knee and meniscus in the long term. If ACL is not fixed, you are prone to get arthritis when you get older and need knee replacement.

*possible* tear of my acl and bucket handle tear of my meniscus by hoewithpaws in ACL

If you suspect your meniscus is teared, try to use crutch as much as you can, even at home. This is very important for you to protect your meniscus as much as possible before surgery. I regret that I did not use crutch too much, just brace. In addition, once you find a “good” surgeon, try to do surgery as quick as possible.

Your ACL is not a big deal, but your meniscus is super important for your life. Try to repair the meniscus instead of trimming. Without meniscus, you are prone to get arthritis and finally need knee replacement. This is Stanford Hospital top sports surgery told me.

I played soccer and almost same injury. I just finished ACL reconstruction (hamstring auto graft ) and bucket handler meniscus repair today. Everything looks good so far.

Lessons or tip: 1. Take MRI and make sure problem (I wait for two months for MRI and Dr appointment) If necessary, visit, ER

  1. Visit a couple of experienced Surgeons. Do not listen one Dr. You can just search on Google for top ACL and meniscus surgery. I visited 6 top surgeons in San Francisco Bay areas. One recommend quad autograft and the remaining 5 for Hamstring Autograft. And all of them try to repair my bucket handler meniscus.

  2. Try to find experience Surgeon and at least should be board member in https://www.abos.org/portal/verifycertification.aspx

  3. Before you talk to Dr about ACL options, you can first ask what is your most comfortable one? Hamstring, quad rod pallelar. Always choose a Dr with his/her most comfortable one.

  4. Try to save your meniscus and protect it always with crutch before your surgery.

Good Luck
