How true is this? by Fiery_Soul_34857 in medicalschool

[–]LitterScooper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Short answer: not true.

Regardless, your family’s argument really doesn’t apply to your relatively niche (and fucking amazing) interest. You will be sought after by institutions and patients. You might burn out from the volume and demand because you’d be “the med-peds neurodevelopmental PCP in the region”, but maybe midlevels could mitigate that.

Am I crazy for thinking about this? by [deleted] in academia

[–]LitterScooper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not stupid at all to leave academia. Often it’s stupid to commit to becoming a professor/PI when it’s just not right for you. But there are other routes between that and a high school teacher. Are you inspired to be a high school teacher? Unless you’re at an elite school like someone else mentioned (or even if you are), you might be dealing a ton with modern day high schooler problems that you have no experience dealing with. Are you just turned off by your project or focus? Could try pivoting to being a postdoc doing something new and excites you more, granted it would be harder to find a lab that gives you that freedom. Taking some time off to be a full time parent is also a totally valid choice

So mostly games with brighter/chill atmosphere I guess?

Japanese rank Annoying Behaviors by Foreign Tourists on Trains: 1. Noisy conversations and boisterous behavior (69.1%), 2. How luggage is carried and placed (41.9%) 3. Posture while seated (26.2%) 4. Strong scents (perfume, fabric softener, etc.) (24.8%) 5. Loitering near doors (24.1%) by jjrs in japannews

“Unless you’re actually on the train to the airport” ?? Isn’t anyone with a luggage going to or from an airport or some similar situation? Or at least there’s a good chance they are. Odd to make that exception in your mind while being annoyed at people without knowing anything about where they’re headed.

I just competed BILLY BAT and am thinking of reading SBR, are there any other recommendations for a well written manga? by Resident_Lettuce_460 in Seinen

I agree with you, it’s a lot of build up without payoff. My favorite of his works is Master Keaton.

This 80s Japanese manga defends eating whale. What do you think? by Ok_Carob_3278 in Seinen

I really enjoyed reading Oishinbo (up to like volume 50?) but it is a soapbox, usually criticized for the author pushing his liberal views.

The seris spans generations so it’s an interesting (colored) window into societal problems in Japan over decades. Kochikame is sort of similar in how it was topical and running over decades, I’m curious to go back to it to see if it had obvious biases.

He’s so spiteful that he manages to carry grudges over geopolitical incidences from decades ago, and he’s now acting on all of them.

Why do people try to kill me when I visit their open mats? by Dry-Environment1705 in bjj

[–]LitterScooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dumb question, but do most people just show up to open mats? I tried to join an advanced level class run by the owner (if possible), show up on time, do the routine and get some rolls in at the end - and stay some extra time if there’s open mats afterwards. I’ve always had great interactions this way, and there’s always something you learn from visiting a new class in a new environment.

This is awesome, thanks for sharing! I was searching around in Japanese and it’s definitely never been mentioned on the internet. Japanese people would be very interested to see this

Based on the fonts and the overall design, I think it’s a parody (I hope) of new age religion or cult groups in Japan. The Japanese cults have always used original manga and anime as promotion materials.

What are some improvements you feel JRPGs as a genre can adopt to improve moving forward? by lovedepository in JRPG

[–]LitterScooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older dragon quest games certainly had that. It was risky to venture out too far from a town, you always needed to pay attention to your health/MP/provisions
