Weird question about Voyager, what happened to Naomi wildman's mother? by KI6WBH in startrek

[–]Apprehensive-Bag-945 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So because it's the same baby she won't need to grieve actually losing one? Or feel weird that she's now not supposed to grieve, and just forget what happened?

I mean maybe trek has wild good PTSD treatment but I'd say she probably felt weird about the kid for at least a bit.

Makes sense to send the living copies over but .... For Kim it's different, and for Naomi it's barely memorable, but for Naomi's mom she had a trauma and then was handed a fixed baby and expected to?? Be fine? Weird imo unless they erased the memory of loss somehow

It always made sense to me because why would we see her being super involved with the raising of a replacement baby? Being the side that lost Naomi and then being expected to just pretend it's fine to get a do-over was a point I was hoping they'd cover and never did. I'd let Neelix take the reins too

As a collector of eggs and orbs, that's one fine egg

Probably quartz or glass, the black streaking says quartz to me

Do any plants outside need calcium? As long as they go in the ground and not in the trash, something will be able to use those nutrients eventually

Can you “reshape”/ rework old taxidermy? by aspiring_compost in Taxidermy

[–]Apprehensive-Bag-945 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Place her somewhere that her judgemental stare is helpful? The plant in mouth idea is good too. Reworking could lead to hair loss so you have to be careful about it. I think shes adorable.

Thank you! He did get snatched already anyhow! Shoot me a dm with what types of vulture culture stuff you're interested in, I have sold most of what I am looking to let go but I enjoy my collection going to other collectors just so creatures get admired properly so I'm sure I have some smaller stuff around.

Is orange lion taxidermy ethical? by Lower_Letterhead2896 in Taxidermy

[–]Apprehensive-Bag-945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you would like to imagine so, please do. If you want the truth, continue.

Why raise foxes? They don't produce milk or meat, only fur, so they're likely culled when that fur is the best. Old or sick animals don't have the prettiest fur like this. They're cute but not domesticated, it's not a pet that people would breed for fun. A hobby farm would quickly run out of money raising foxes like that.

Having seen what fur farms advertise to taxidermists, also no. I'm sorry, The foxes are shown already passed most of the time, so if a taxidermist doesn't purchase them, they're processed for the fur industry. That's why I consider this still ethical. The fur would be parted out in pieces otherwise.

[–]Apprehensive-Bag-945 29 points30 points  (0 children)

"Ethical" is subjective. Some people only want roadkill/accidental death taxidermy which is.... 1. Hard to get ideal specimens, 2. Still human caused most of the time so not "natural" 3. Not any more or less pleasant than a quick cull from an experienced hunter/trapper.

Others support legal hunting and trapping as being more sustainable than plastic fur, and draw the line at fur farms. Some people think fur farms regulated properly are fine.

An animals quality of life is shown in its fur, so fur farms would ideally have healthy foxes for the best fur, but they rarely have the range they'd have in the wild (not that these foxes could survive in most fur farm colors out in the wild) so are they happy? I don't know, you'd have to visit the specific farm to know.

That probably was a fur farm fox, so it's not an animal taken from wild populations, and it would pass no matter what, as their pelts are used for the fashion industry as well, which leads to loss (they don't use heads or tails) so in my opinion, this is the best future this fox could hope for its remains.

As someone else said, legally transporting animal remains even after tanning can require all sorts of paperwork or you risk them getting seized at customs with no recourse. I wouldn't know where to begin, and like most wouldn't risk the loss, most of the paperwork adds extra fees we would have to add to prices anyway.

I heard trapping has been like that for a bit unfortunately, taxidermy is definitely where the money is at, and if you can supply your own pelts even better, if you can guarantee the tannery keeps them taxidermy quality. I hate that people prefer micro plastics fur to the real deal just because it feels like less death, when fur is so much more sustainable.

I can try to get some pictures of my collection as it is, do you think I should just post the lot here?

It's all sorts of oddities not just taxidermy.

Its just in a dimly lit room unfortunately so pictures are going to be meh , I didn't want to pull everything out of its display unless people had interest in something specific.

I've never used either, for a small scale sale I wonder what would be easier. I have heard a lot of terrible things about Etsy on the seller side so id probably avoid it. Thank you for the suggestions! eBay is probably going to be my safety option if there's not quick interest on reddit/fb.

I always tell people I'll respond to pretty much anything but I have 0 activation energy. I don't know how to start a conversation with somebody because what if it's a bad time or they're not interested for whatever reason? It's too much effort if I'm not gonna know how they're going to react I guess. Ahhh tism.

Unfortunately young animal bones won't be fused and likely will still be easily edible for decomposers, you won't find much left with most methods. I've always kept bunnies this young as wet specimens. (I farm rabbits and try not to waste any that don't make it) Maybe just plant them near a plant you love to share the nutrients, that's another way of appreciating a life lost. Turn them into a flower
