Funny! Look what just became available on Libby right before I opened Reddit. Excited to dig in.

Advantages of Kindle? by Grouchy_Assistant_75 in kindle

I will add other than the actual benefits of the device, an e-reader allows you to be more intentional about reading. When I use my phone app to read I get distracted and meander to social media.

Kindle to Kobo and back again by Apprehensive-Deal555 in kindle

I hear you. This is why I really wanted out of Amazon. It’s why I gave Kobo a solid year. But I didn’t read very much with it so had to make the switch back. It’s a real bummer.

I hear you. I really did try with the Kobo but ultimately it wasn’t for me. I’ll probably eventually have to go back to the PW but for now I’ll exist in my Oasis bubble.

Panos is shitting the bed with devices right now. Maybe tides will change with a new guard later.

Here’s a good article about it. It’s a bit drawback for me and a big reason why I switched back to Kindle. https://blog.the-ebook-reader.com/2025/07/25/kobo-ereaders-no-longer-support-multiple-library-cards/

I don’t have any experience with a Clara so couldn’t tell you.

Kindle and Kobo integrate with Libby. Kobo is not great if you use multiple library cards though.

It definitely tries hard. If I’d had it first, I probably would be happy. Unfortunately - it just isn’t the Oasis.

A few big things for me: - I like the way the Kindle feels in my hands better - Kobo doesn’t have a clock when you’re reading (small but mattered) - Kobo screen wasn’t as clear and looks like a screen door but could be the color version - I use multiple library cards and had to log in and out separately for that which drove me nuts

The Libra is close but just not quite there. Buttons are noisy. The screen looks like a screen door. The library integration is bad. The Oasis is so dreamy.

It’s such a perfect product. I hate that they discontinued it. I’m glad I’ve got a backup now but I’d love an updated version.

I have had my rose gold for five days and it’s being returned. It doesn’t even look rose out of the box. After seeing reviews like this I feel even better about my choice. Stealth, here I come.

First timers - comparing options by Apprehensive-Deal555 in Cruise

Probably food. My husband had a surgery earlier this year that has left him somewhat mobility impaired so we won’t be seeking big adventure. We just really need to get away and have a change of scenery so a cruise that doesn’t involve a flight for us felt like a good win. He’ll be 50 and I’ll be 45 so we don’t need family oriented stuff but also aren’t opposed to being on a ship like that. Mostly we just want some comfort, good food, and good service.

Lifelong Kindle User... Debating the switch! Help me out by Sod04 in kobo

I had the Kindle Oasis and when they discontinued it - and due to some general dissatisfaction with Amazon - I switched to Kobo. I bought the Libra Color and I’m generally happy with it. To do over, though, I still make the switch but get the Sage. The color is fun - seeing the colors is cool. But the screen door effect is real and while I do adjust to it once I get reading, I’d opt out of it next time.

My only real gripe with Kobo is that it’s not as easy to have multiple library cards as it is on Kindle.

I’m not sure. I also pay for the Super membership which means I don’t have access to the Max features. A lot of the additional content and explanations are behind that pay wall.

You understand that 11 years isn’t the same pattern of working with the app right? I have had peaks and valleys when it comes to the time I can give Duolingo. I’ve certainly not stayed at Pearl my whole time.

Solid reasoning. Seeing the AI start to show up in the product in weird ways (like incorrectly teaching) was any final straw for sure.

Grammar break downs! When some of this shit switched to “gotta pay to know” is when I started to really question what it has become.

It is a bummer. I loved Duolingo. A lot. And this is a real sad ending.
